Victorian Carved Marble Fireplace Medallion (#1), Decorative
Up for auction is an old carved white marble fireplace medallion that was salvaged from a demolished home in the mid-1980s in upstate New York. The original hanging wire is still securely in place on the back. The condition is very good without cracks or chips. Some plaster remains and a little bit of minor abrasion here or there that will buff out. I have cleaned it only with water to remove smoke residue build-up. Dimensions: 9-13/16" high, 7-7/8" at widest point, 3-1/2" at thickest point, width of surface-contact top edge is 2" medallion weight: approx. 10 lbs. The marble is white. Ignore tinting in photos. Antique Carved White Marble Victorian Fireplace Medallion Shell & Feather Design
I bought this medallion from the owner of a historic building in downtown Toledo. Ohio. He is selling the building and thinks the new owners will either tear it down or gut and renovate it. He has removed some of the more interesting architectural elements to preserve them. This medallion is in wonderful condition. There are no cracks, but there are several tiny chips in the fluted areas. I just wiped the medallion down with a damp cloth. The chips will be even less noticeable if you clean it well. The medallion is 10 1/2" long by 9" wide by 3 1/4" deep at its thickest point. It is very heavy. Let your imagination run wild!
