They look like Greenblatt Studio Arcade Manufacturing dogs from Boston MA, cira 1928. No chips or cracks. I have had these for a while, I painted them black myself(silly me I guess) I used rustoleum flat black paint to match my decor at the time. I don't believe they have a makers mark, but again, I did paint them. I purchased them from an antique dealer in New Hampshire about 20 years ago, not far from Boston. They are 17 inches tall. 2 ANTIQUE ANDIRONS Here is an interesting pair of andirons. They appear to be brass. At least the center posts do as you can see the brass under the patena and rust. The bottom leg area is showing some silver metal, too heavy and thick for aluminum, I would think. They are heavy, each weighing 11 pounds. They are rusty and may have been painted at some point. Within the patina are colors of red/pink, browns, gold and silver. The metal is thick. The back braces are cool looking. They measure 19.75" in height and 10" front to back. The back of each upright is marked A1 and a symbol I can't make out. The back bars/braces are marked D4. I would say these are very old. From the 1800's although they could be from 1900's. I have up for sale a wonderful matching pair of vintage circa 1930s Art Deco Seated Dog Andirons. Manufactured by the Tennessee Chrome Plate Co- Nashville. The andirons stands approx 18" tall and are made of heavy cast iron- with electroplated brass fronts. The back sections are stamped with the manufacturers name- Tenn. Chrome Plate Co- Nashville. Both are in Very Good to Excellent Condition- No Damages and any wear is light. Some normal age and use wear to the brass plating. SUPERB Pr 19thc GOTHIC ENAMELLED WINGED GARGOYLE FIREDOGS
This is a superb pair of 19th c gothic hearthside firedogs/fireside winged gargoyles in sitting pose. Excellent attention to detail on this fine pair of gargoyles. They are designed to sit either side of a hearth and I imagine they are intended to hold fireside implements. They are metal with a brown enamel over. The gargyles are in a sitting pose with open mouths and with a fine pair of wings and curved tail. Hollow to base. Measures some 7. 75" height x 6" overall length. Condition overall is excellent and age commensurate with some minor generalised chipping to the enamel- nothing of significance. All as per images. They have a column style design with a large ball and finial at the top. They have an awesome patina and by the looks of them I would say these are also made of bronze as well. But I'm not sure They're in good used condition with normal wear such as some slight variation in color and a few minor scratches The only thing I really see wrong with them is one of them(see last 2 pics) has something on it. It will scratch off with your fingernail but it will also take off the patina as well and leave the bronze color underneath which will make it more noticeable. ... moreIt looks like to me that sometime ago maybe some clear plastic paper-like material stuck to it while it was hot and was never removed and changed colors with age as the bronze aged. That's just a guess. It's on the backside and you really can't see much of it These are very large pieces and measures approximately 14.25" in width x 32.25" in height and 25" deep. The iron shanks are about 21" long and about 5" from the floor to the top of the shank I'm not sure of the age but would guess the late 1800's or early 1900's These awesome pieces are being sold in"as is" condition so please check out the pics closely as they are part of the description and ask your questions before making your purchase Sorry.
