this is an absolutely stunning pair of rare antique ornate victorian brass fireplace andirons. they have an obscure design with a dual andiron on each piece. they have a great 3 dimensional flame finial which is very detailed. The back/ wood rests are made from cast iron. With a brass plate over the top, and this is where the second is located. the brass has a great patina from age. one measures 22 inches tall by 9 inches wide by 17 inches back to front. there is slight ware to one of the back finials but facing toward the back it is hard to see. and some blacking on the back of the backs as well but will buff or clean up. great rare set. Antique 18th Century Handforged Cast Iron Slotted Spoon
This is an incredible find of hand forged. Cast iron history! It belongs on a brick mantle next to a bed warmer or some other historic cast iron piece. The shape of the bowl portion of the spoon shape is unusual and suggests that it was made from a wrought iron Pennsylvania forger from the late 18th century. It has a"pigtail" handle. Which most of them did at that time period, as well. It shows incredible workmanship with the turned lip where the spoon meets the handle and it has an extra large spoon base. The handle is 14 inches long to the point that it meets the bottom portion. The ladle part is 7.5 inches long by 6.5 inches wide. Similar items have sold for over $2.000 at Skinners. It has some rust. Of course, but it is in mint condition! It's a perfect example of early, truly antique, kitchen utensils. They appear to have been polished somewhat recently. We found this is the barn a few days ago. It has been under some old column posts. I think this is a Marble support for a fireplace mantle. But I am not sure. the other possibility is it could be a fancy ornament that capped a column? I am not sure. I do believe the piece is handcarved marble. The scroll work is wonderful. Sadly I only have ONE. Also the back is signed with the Initials P.R. not to sure about that either. Just guessing it could be the person who hand carved the marble. I would say this piece is from the 1800's. The piece has a chip around the hole at the top which would be concealed when placed. Also there is some light chipping to a little bit of the scroll work. not much though. The piece weighs about 12 or 13 pounds. I would use a medium flat rate box to ship.
