Antique Brass Andirons circa 1800-1840
offered here are a rare and handsome pair of early American brass Andirons. They measure 23.5 high. By 19.75 deep, by 11.5 wide. They are made of brass and iron. The hollow brass sections that have seamed construction. The internal rods that hold up the brass sections are made of wrought iron and are square with hand cut threads at the top. They are peened over at the bottom holding the legs and iron firedogs together tightly. The log stops are held in place by a small wrought iron rod that is square with hand cut threads. These iron rods have an interesting spiral effect(see photos) and are peened over on the bottom of the firedog. This type of construction is typical of early 19th century andirons. The brass sections are sand cast in two separate halves and then soldered together. Then they would put these parts on a lathe and turn and ... morepolish them. You can still see the vertical lines Where they were soldered together if you look closely; The feet on the bottom are cast in halves. Soldered together and turned as well. This is a somewhat unusual feature of this design. These Andirons are of excellent quality and workmanship. They would have been produced for a wealthy. Upscale home. They date from somewhere between the 1800's and the1840's. After this period they began to use different construction methods so these are definitely an early pair(see photos) They have a beautiful patina which appears to be very old. It is a bluish green verdigris patina on top of a rich brown colored brass. The places where the verdigris has come off reveal a very deep brown almost black patina on the brass. The blue-green is not completely balanced and uniform. One of the Andirons appears darker in the photo. This is partly due to a shadow in the photo, but is also due to this one has more of the brown patina visible, especially on the upper section and the lower left feet. I believe that you could remove this green verdigris( if you so desired) very easily without disturbing the brown patina underneath. They would have a

Antique Bradley and Hubbard andirons bronze/brass circa 1890/1900
Up for auction is a very unique pair of Bradley and Hubbard andirons. These beautiful antique andirons were an estate find in South Carolina low country. They are made or brass or bronze except for the leg part where the log goes that is cast iron. The entire front including the handle is made of the same material brass or bronze.I can see a few places where the shiny metal shows thru as shown in the pictures. I do not want to remove the beautiful patina. The top part is hollow and you can turn the top finial and unscrew it. I only turned it slightly for the photo but it appears to be in 4 separate pieces. These are both in great condition and I do not see any damage or repairs. I have not been able to find any just like it in my research. They are both stamped Bradley and Hubbard mfg co 12. I got this elegant pair from an Antique Dealer that just moved here from New York. So these must have been a pair he dragged here with him, as they are clearly marked WMH Jackson Co NY and dated Dec 08, 1908. Sorry the flash and the poor lighting where I took the pictures made it hard for me to get some good shots of the marks. In one of the photos the iron even came out white, which is not, it is dark. Each measures approx. 20" tall by 7 1/2" wide by 21" deep including its cast iron arm. VERY heavy solid brass and cast iron. Up for auction are these stunning Large Grand Antique Brass Andirons 3 Feet High/Tall. I do not know anything about them except they have been in our family for ages. My grandparents were antique dealers and collectors. I only know through the years they have been offered double or triple the amount I have listed. I really have no idea if these are solid brass. Or brass over cast iron. The legs and cannon ball finials are hollow, upon further inspection there is a hole at bottom of balls and the legs are open from the back. Vintage set of solid brass andirons circa 1920-40 for small fireplace
Nice older solid brass and irons for a smaller fireplace. Wonderful design with ball finials and curled brass legs. They measure approx. 7 1/4" deep x 10 1/2" high. They could be polished I like them as is. Also a few minor dings and scratches. The bottom of the feet have the old square bolts, one screw was replaced with a Philips head screw.
