This one is probably from the 1880's ... moreto 1920's don't think much newer and possibly older. It is in nice overall condition though a little wood treatment would help bring out the details of the wood a little better. The maker was E. Murdock& Co. of Winchendon Massachusetts and that might help date this piece. The red lettering indicates this one was known as"Colonial No. 0310" On the back side there is some type of surface decoration or woodburned decoration that is somewhat faint depicting several figures moving about. Not sure what the subject or intent of the scene is. The washboard is about 25 inches tall and 12.25 inches wide, 2.75 inches thick at the top wide piece. No damage noted, should make a nice medium to large sized decor piece though it appears suited to continued use for those who want to build up their arm muscles. Nice. That's about it. The pictures should be helpful to those having interest. We'll start this old or antique wood frame Murdock Co. washboard low so enjoy the auction. We'll pack this carefully. When packed this will weigh about 5 lbs so we'll use USPS Parcel Select service as the lowest cost postal alternative to the buyer. We have no packing or handling charge. ONBOTH SIDES IS. Two in One Jr. Carolina Washboard Co. Raleigh, NC. Ihave no idea if it was ever used but it has been laying around in storage. It’sin good“used” condition. It needs to be cleaned and I have not done so. I will leave the cleaning to the buyer. There is some paint on the glass that can be scrapped off with a razor blade. There isnt any on the wood surfaces.

Hello. You are viewing my sale for a Vintage Crystal Cascade Washboard. This washboard has a Glass washer and a Wood frame. It is a"Standard Family Size Heavy Glass Columbus Washboard No. 2080" The Crystal wording side has interesting soap bubble artwork around the wording. The wording on the Crystal side is worn and it appears that at some point there was a paintbrush cleaned on this unit and that is why the wording on the Cascade side is faded. The Columbus side is still bright and bold. There is a split in the wood on the lettering portion of the washboard. It proceeds half way across the section. The section is still intact and stable. The glass section has no breaks or splits in it. The entire washboard measures 23 and 3/4" tall by 12 and 1/4" wide by 2" thick. This would make a great decorative item. 1950s Pine and Glass Washboard for Skiffle Music or for Washing Clothes
I am selling this original old 1950s pine wood and glass washboard. Used for washing clothes in the days before washing machines became widespread. The washboard was manufactured in England. Another popular use was a musical instrument. During mid-century skiffle boom. A thimble was used as a strummer, to generate the sound. There are still a few Rockabilly bands who use them today. The Jive Aces(Finalists on Britain's Got Talent 2012) being one I've seen recently. It measures 21 1/2 inches tall. 12 1/2 inches wide and 1 inch thick. The glass is ribbed on one side and flat on the other. The condition is good; there;s a hole in the wood on one leg. From where there was a knot in the wood and it has some marks and scratches, but overall it is lovely and clean and in fine fettle for the age. This item is canary yellow in color. It appears more green in my photo.sorry. It is vaseline glass and it glows brightly under black light. This is a novelty item produced by the Summit Art Glass Co. In the late 1990's, I believe. It is in the shape of an old wash board or scrub board and it has embossed lettering on the top that reads, Colgate Soap" The item measures 5" long, 2 1/2" wide and is 1/2" thick from back to front at the top. The piece is in great condition, with no cracks, chips or other damage. There is one tiny glob of raised glass at the bottom of one of the legs that is extra glass that occured during it's manufacture. It's a cutie to add to your collection, not to mention a conversational piece.Does anyone ever use one of thse anymore?

Original nails with original patina on nails. Large. Nearly unnoticeable, repaired crack in wood right under the red National marking, but the frame holds it together nicely as if you can hardly notice it from the front side, and it has been repaired. Wood is in generally good shape, glass is not chipped and has"national" imprinted on the glass indicating it is the original glass. It is very solid and sturdy but I can only make out the word HOME on one side and Columbus Washboard Co. Columbus. Ohio on the other. The glass is in good condition and not cracked anywhere. It is smooth on one side and ribbed on the other. MIDGET WASHER AUTHENTIC & OLD GLASS CANDY CONTAINER WASHBOARD T235
Honest. This was first sold as a little girls' candy container. The candy was called"buttons" and were dropped(when hot) on paper strips. The paper strips were lightly glued to the ribs of the glass. The children were suppose to eat the buttons and then use the glass washboard just like Mother! Poor Mother) Of course just one drop on concrete and this toy would be gone, but this old glass piece was protected from damage. No chips, no cracks and no problems. With SUPER packaging, it would arrive safely to the buyer. The name on the top is not easy to read, but is"MIDGET WASHER" and really looks cute in a glass or wood washtub. It is heavy at nearly two pounds and is 6 X 8 5/8" Some collectors put black ink on the embossed name, but I always leave old items alone, and that means no chance of damage! Vintage Early 1900's Solid Glass"Midget Washer" Washboard Watched my great grandmother wash nylons on one identical to this when I was a child in the 1950's however that one when to a cousin when my great-grandmother passed away in 1967 at the age of 97. From my research. I believe this to be from the the 1920's to perhaps as late as the 1940's. I saw where another person had stated it was a candy item however every website and antique vendor I researched stated it was used for laundering nylons and fragile lingerie type items. It makes absolutely no sense that it could have been related to candy or a childs toy. If someone can provide reliable information showing that this item had anything to do with dispensing candy and was a childs toy. Please let me know so I can represent this item accurately. As well as some other imperfections that appear to resemble cracks, however they are from the manufacturing/molding of the washboard and are not actual cracks or chips. It has a thin crack which runs through the length of that board and it has a clip to hang it up that was mounted many years later that can be removed if you want. The washboard feels a little wobbly due to age but has nice bright lettering. A great display piece. It was produced by the National Washboard Company Chicago, Saginaw and Memphis. The unusual feature about this one is that it has a glass surface to work with, most have metal or wooden surfaces for cleaning clothes.
