1800's antique Forged Wrought Iron Fireplace Swivel Hearth Crane Kettle holder hook& Andirons. Up for sale is an original with a history you don't see too often. It is a hand forged wrought iron fireplace hearth crane and set of andirons. We think at least from the middle of the 1800's. We know some of the history of these items. They came from the homeplace when the fireplace was refurbished and an fireplace insert was put in place. The hearth crane was removed and these andirons were no longer needed. We think it was made by the original owner of the land and builder of the main part of the house. The fireplace was part of the original cabin. The house has been built onto over the years and remodeled by multiple owners. We think the original cabin was built by a man name Leonard Dangerfield born in 1804 and he was a gunsmith. ... moreHis son Thomas. Who died in the Civil War was also a gunsmith. Between the two of them we think they possibly made this set. We thought about not selling these but we are in the position that if we don't need it and don't have a use for it.why keep it? We are definitely not going to put it back in the fireplace. We would rather keep the insert stove instead. Use the fireplace crane to hang a planter on the porch? My mother said, no" Too big for a small porch. So for someone this is a really good set of a hand forged wrought iron Antique fireplace crane and andirons with a history. The crane was built into the fireplace and swivels. The arm on the fireplace crane is 21 inches long. The height is 18 inches, the attachment arm is 10 inches. Up for auction is a beautiful pair of antique brass andirons. I would like to first point out that there is a piece missing on one of the andirons- it's the piece that goes into the hole in one of the hinges. This piece does not effect the way you use these andirons. Nor their ability to stand. As you can see in the pictures it is not really something one would notice unless you're looking for it. They are a beautiful addition to any fireplace. However, due to the missing piece, I am selling these andirons at a very inexpensive price. I will be honest. I do not know much about these andirons, except to know that they come from the estate of the great-great grandfather of a friend of the family. Super Cast Brass Antique Fleur de Lis Andirons, France or England, amazing set
This is a really nice set of antique andirons. Cast brass, most likely French origin, circa 1800s, with heavy Fleur del lis motif- lily or iris FDL finial, heraldry emblems in shield or crest, banner and crown, with skirted legs and a very unique reeded ornamental curving leg and ball foot. The detail is quite nice. The braces speak to age and a potential blacksmith mark is noted on one. Maker and origin cannot be determined. Regardless. This is a fabulous set of andirons and peening may suggest an earlier late 1700s make. Additional pics are forthcoming. These andirons are mid sized and not as weighty as many sets with large. Heavy braces. They were cleaned and restored about 10 years ago. The brass patina is slightly more mellow than these pictures show. There is no damage other than the customary wear and tear of time- the braces are particularly ... morereflective. Pair of 19th century cast iron figural andirons of a draped cherub balancing a basket of flowers on his head. The figure measures 13 1/2" tall and 7" wide. The support is 17" long. From a local estate, the cast iron figures have been painted gold. The iron surface of the figures is pitted- these may have been outdoors for a long time. The figures are posed to look like they each have one arm behind their back. One figure was broken across the chest and was later repaired. The support on the back of one andiron is permanently attached, probably by a blacksmith. Someone went to a lot of trouble to save these andirons! Even with the flaws, I think they are very attractive and would enhance a room with a touch of Victorian Neo-Classicism. A nice ebayer emailed us that they are probably English. This is an old pair of George Washington figural fireplace andirons. I have no way to tell how old they are but they appear to be pretty old. Early Period Antique Wrought Iron Fireplace Andirons with Spit Bar Holders
A pair of early antique wrought iron fireplace andirons or firedogs in wrought iron. Circa 1800. Measure 17 1/2" high overall with a 14" spread at the foot and a 4" high arch. The log bars off the back extend 16 1/2" and 17 1/2" Each firedog has three curled spit bar holders off the back of the upright that extend 1 3/4" The nicely formed top knob is 1 5/8" in diameter. A nice pair of period firedogs. As is, showing appropriate wear from much use, surface pitting, and some surface scaling but in sound condition. Nice early penny feet and good early form. They stand 16" tall. 11" wide, and 22" long. T hey have not been altered or painted. The c ast iron is in good condition. One andiron has two hol es: a hole near the wa ist and one on the cheek. You can spot the holes by the white on that andiron. The last two pics show the small cracks or holes. Our guess is that the white stuff is high temp putty put on by the factory when the andirons were cast to secure those thin areas/cracks that happened during casting. Since they were sand casted. Its not an exact science and the thickness varies. Also the one with the putty on it bends to the back a little bit. What a great estate sale find! A pair of 9" tall antique federal brass andirons with tongs! I am assuming these are a salesman sample set but I don't know for sure. These appear to be quite old but again I don't know their history. The owner of the estate was an elderly woman who told me these had always been in her grandmothers house. But that's all she knew. I also don't know if the iron parts are original or replacement. They are in good condition with a few blemishes here and there but one tip is broken off of the tongs. Antique Hessian Andirons, German Cast Iron
Antique Striding Hessian Andirons without log holders. Appears to be original paint. Green jackets and head ware. Beige uniforms trimmed in black, black boots, white gloves. Carrying swords. Similar pair(with log holders) sold at Kovels, 2009 Price Guide, for $480.00. 20" tall, base is approximately 9 1/2" Many areas where paint has chipped(please see photos) But color is still prominent. Queen Anne Style Wrought Iron Andirons w/ Brass Urns VERY NICE Antique
I'm not sure as to the age of these but they are priced accordingly. They look to have some age to them. They came out of a VT estate. A nice combination of wrought iron and turned brass. Each of the feet measures 1 1/2 long and the distance between them from tip to tip is 8" The height to the top of the brass finial is 20” The finial itself is 6" tall. The wrought iron log holder is 15 1/2 inches and the brass fire dogs which are are 1 1/2” tall. These are in nice shape.They are a little scaly on the tops of the log holders. Remember. These are used. They have a nice character to them. I rubbed the iron with some fine steel wool and they shined up really nicely. I just took the soot off them. See pics and ask questions.
