It was stripped and finished ... morewith 4 coats of Minwax Antique Wipe-On Varnish. Then handrubbed with 0000 steel wool and paste-wax. Original brass decorative hardware on front. Door handle has a lock. But I've never owned the key and don't know if it functions. The inset handle on the top lid is solid brass. The steel hinges on the lid are original, but obviously not as decorative and the ones on the front. Wheels were missing when purchased and have been replaced. Ice chamber is missing corrugated galvanized panel on which the ice rested. Provision" chamber is missing the wire shelves. Part of the original instruction label is still attached to the lid. It mentions"Sapolio" a very well known cleaning product in widespread use from 1869 to 1939. I found a Sapolio ad from 1924 specifically targeting Ice Box owners. The ornate nature of the hardware leads me to believe the Ice Box is from around 1910. Overall the piece is in very good condition. The measurements are 24" wide x 16" deep and 40 1/2" tall. The ice chamber measures 19" wide x 12" deep x 12" tall. The provision area measures 20" wide x 12" deep and 15 1/2" tall. No reserve. Available for pick-up in Frederick. This ice box has over 20 hand carved pieces on the two front doors, nice detailed lion head carvings and two large paw feet. All of these carvings were hand made by highly skill woodworkers in the 1890's. The columns on the sides are really nice oak rope carvings that are below each lion head and extends down to the top of each paw foot. Underneath the top ledge are unusual oak trim with heart style carvings on all three sides. The bevelled mirror is in great shape, no chips, scratches or hazeThis ice box is solid oak and has never been painted before. A lot of the ice boxes that you see listed were painted before and when finished, they have a washed out appearance from the paint still present in the grain of the wood. This ice box has a beautiful smooth finish and a rich color to it. You will not be disappointed one bit with this item. The steel hinges on the lid are original, but obviously not as decorative and the ones on the front. Wheels were missing when purchased and have been replaced. Ice chamber is missing corrugated galvanized panel on which the ice rested. Provision" chamber is missing the wire shelves. Part of the original instruction label is still attached to the lid. It mentions"Sapolio" a very well known cleaning ... moreproduct in widespread use from 1869 to 1939. I found a Sapolio ad from 1924 specifically targeting Ice Box owners. The ornate nature of the hardware leads me to believe the Ice Box is from around 1910. Overall the piece is in very good condition. The measurements are 24" wide x 16" deep and 40 1/2" tall. The ice chamber measures 19" wide x 12" deep x 12" tall. The provision area measures 20" wide x 12" deep and 15 1/2" tall. No reserve. Available for pick-up in Frederick. Antique Leonard Oak Ice Box/ Refrigerator Superb
This antique Oak Leonard Refrigerator/ Ice Box is in excellent condition. Inside and out. Everything is original- original color, natural patina due to age, and all original hardware and label signs still well-attached. It has approximately 30 inches width, 18 inches depth, and 37 inches in height. Small four wheels are attached on the base which are not original for Leonard's, they are only attached for easy moving of the ice box. One of the wheels was taken off, so the wheels are easy to remove if you do not want them. There is a scratch at the side(see picture) but not major. Overall, the refrigerator is in good condition. Original labels are still securedly attached. This ice box resided only in homes of the very wealthy and actually were displayed in the dining room area instead of the kitchen. This ice box has over 20 hand carved pieces on the two front doors, nice detailed lion head carvings and two large paw feet. All of these carvings were hand made by highly skill woodworkers in the 1890's. The columns on the sides are really nice oak rope carvings that are below each lion head and extends down to the top of each paw foot. Underneath the top ledge are unusual oak trim with heart style carvings on all three sides. Pictured is a highly carved oak mirrored door. Claw, paw foot ice box in as found condition. The carvings were hand made by victorian craftsman who worked for the belding Hall company. 1900's Four Door Antique Herrick Oak Ice Box
The stunning old-timey four door antique Herrick Ice Box is a rare find. This particular unit is made of old growth oak. And due to the absolute best of my knowledge this ice box was manufactured by the Herrick Company in the early 1900's. The interior of the ice box has thick insulated walls as well as doors with; original well cared for cam latches on each door to properly secure them. Although a latch has been bent over the years all are functional and close the unit's door properly. To facilitate moving the ice box around we have constructed a steel frame with casters for moving the unit with ease. In addition to the rest of the ice box. It has its own original drip pan. The whole ice box weighs in at a whooping 400 lbs. When it comes to size this ice box is one of the largest. Dimensions are: Height- 35 inches Seat diameter- 16 inches Depth from the back rest to the seat edge- 19 inches. Both chairs are structurally sound. Both have some old white paint splatter dots. One char has seat damage(shown) Same chair has a slight teeter. Each chair has a leg with a n age occ urred split(both shown) Chairs were cleaned with oil soap and water. Then dark stain restorer was appl i ed with fine steel wool. Finished off with a thick application of citrus& beeswax polish and left in the sun for an hour t o soak in.
