1899 English Nautical Sterling Silver Ship Siren Whistle - S.Y. Andria -Maritime
Here's a rare 1899 Sterling Silver Nautical Siren. It's actually a siren and not a whistle. Which sounds more like the old hand-cranked siren on a fire truck. It works perfectly and is in excellent condition for it's age and use. Some of the soldering is rough between the mouthpiece and the body of the siren. It has British Hallmarks which I believe read- 925 Sterling- London- 1899 and a faint maker's mark. It also has the address"Imp. Staty Co. 1 Old Bond St. W. The siren measures 3 1/4" long and approximately 7/8" wide. It's engraved"R.H. Henning& S. Y. Andria" R. H. Henning was the owner of the Steam Yacht Andria, which was built for him in Scotland by the Ailsa Ship Building Company in 1897. Bidding on a nice Antique brass 3-chime hand pump whistle. The whistle is in working condition. Stands approx 12" tall plus 2 1/4" with handle and the cylinder is approx. 4 3/8" in diameter. There are no cracks. Dents and the 3 mounting feet are all intact. This antique whistle is in as found condition with patina and will let the new owner polish if desired. These were only made from the late 1800's to early 1900's. There is no indication of who it was made by and very few had any maker marks or dates. They could have been used in early steam or gas launches and any vehicle that required audible sound for safety.
