Vintage Authentic Bosuns Whistle- Sea Captains Boatswains Whistle from Germany. This vintage Bosuns/Boatswains whistle is genuine. Just like the sea captains used in the maritime days. Engraved onto the whistle are the words"Made in Germany" and the"Romo" logo. This is the real thing and quality made. It has a small key ring which you can attach to any hook, to your keys, belt loop, etc. Silver toned metal measures: 5" long X 1" at highest point. Each section of the whistle has a name: Shackle, Keel, Hole, Gun& Buoy. It was never used, simply sat on a shelf in a cabinet in a cool dry place. Or"bosun's call, can be traced with certainty all the way back to 1248 AD, during the days of the Crusades. It is also said that the galley slaves of Rome and Greece kept stroke to the sound of a flute or whistle similar to the boatswain's call. In later days, the Call was worn in English ships as an honored badge of rank, probably because it had always been used for passing orders. As long ago as 1485, it was worn as the badge of the Lord High Admiral of England and was worn by his successor in office up to 1562. In those days, it was known as a whistle and was worn on a silver chain. Thereafter, it was used throughout the English fleets for passing orders. Condition- Vintage Tiffany Boatswains Whistle Bosun’s Whistle. Marked with Tiffany and CO. measuring 3 ½ inches long. Total weight in.925 sterling silver is 12 grams. This whistle is in excellent condition, no dents or dings, repairs or monograms. This is a wonderful gift to the boat owner or a person who is in the nautical business or military. Notes; A bit of history of the whistle A boatswain's call, pipe or bosun's whistle is a pipe or a non-diaphragm type whistle used on naval ships by a boatswain. It is pronounced. And sometimes spelled, bosun's call" The pipe consists of a narrow tube(the gun) which directs air over a metal sphere(the buoy) with a hole in the top. You are bidding on a vintage Bo'Sun Whistle. The age is unknown. The box seems to be very old and it comes with the original Paperwork. Pleas look closely at the pictures as this is the exact item you will receive. There is a small chip or imperfection by the mouthpiece and light scratching but for as old as it seems. It in great condition. The box has seen better days but it is the original box. The History paper included also has a tear on one end and is original also. WELCOME TO MY AUCTION. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR BIDS! Outstanding piece of World War Two history. This is a United States Navy Bosun's or Boatswain's pipe or whistle with hand woven cord. The whistle is stamped"STERLING" This neat piece has a lot of dents and dings and a bunch of graffiti scratched on it which identifies it to a particular ship. To start. The side stamped"STERLING" USS AURIGA K98" is scratched with what appears to be some initials under it of"WPE" then to the side of this is a scratched circle with"8 BALL" scratched underneath. The other side has a tic-tac-toe board scratched on it with initials"V2" to the side and a"dot dot dot dash" mark? Ship history: Auriga(AK-98) was an Auriga-class cargo ship commissioned by the U.S. Navy for service in World War II. ... moreNamed after the constellation Auriga. She was responsible for delivering troops, goods and equipment to locations in the war zone. World War II Pacific Theatre operations Upon her commissioning. The cargo ship was assigned to the Naval Transportation Service. When the conversion work had been completed, she got underway on 6 June for Port Hueneme, California, to load cargo and departed the U.S. West Coast on 14 April, bound for the Fiji Islands. The vessel reached Viti Levu, Fiji Islands, on 3 May and began discharging cargo. Unloading was completed on the 28th, and she then reversed her course and proceeded back to the west coast of the United States. Upon her arrival in San Francisco, the ship entered a shipyard for repair work which was completed by early July when Auriga moved to Alameda. It is 5.5" long, It is marked sterling. 25.4 grams.
