This UNUSUAL antique brass hand bell was probably made in New York or New England in the mid 1800's or earlier. I was told it was a fog bell. The style compares to brass mortar and pestles made in the same era. The brass bell is 5 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall. Including the bras handle. I have never seen another one like it. It is marked as being made in Taiwan and is pretty good condition with a little spottiness to the metal. It is a bit dusty and could use a good cleaning. This is a chrome plated brass boat bell. Has clapper and has 5" long attached mounting arm with mounting sleeve and(attached to sleeve with tape. See pics, are the screws to mount the bell) 6" across bottom, 4 1/2" tall, 2" across at top, and a 3 1/2" clapper. Weighs 1# 8oz. I am sure it is chrome plated brass because it will not hold a magnet. This bell is a one owner. We purchased it and used it on one of our boats. The bell has been in storage for quite a few years. This is a very old bell off a private boat that was destroyed due to unseaworthy condition. Boat was last moored in Marina Del Rey. CA about 50 years ago.
