Up for grabs is a old brass. Or bronze, Tugboat Ship Air Horn. I found it digging in a guys basement at an estate sale. Their basement was full of other old boating and shipping pieces. Living in the Seattle Puget Sound area you tend to come across this kind of stuff time and time again. These were typically used on Tugboats or other smaller commercial type of vessels that made numerous trips through Puget Sound and the Ocean. The previous owner was knowledgeable and told me that it should still work fine, and that it is very loud. Please note that I have not actually tested it though. This piece looks to have been painted a few times throughout its life. Imagine the stories it could probably tell! It has PERKO and numbers in the bell that are raised in the bronze. A-23 and 150-12. The mounting plate measures 5+1/4 inches across. This bell has little wear and would be great for a restoration project, collection, or decorating a nautical room. Vintage Small Ship or Boat Copper & Brass Fog Horn
For auction is a vintage mouth-blown copper and brass fog horn for a small ship or boat. These were used to signal one's position to other boats in conditions where visability was bad.This one has a couple of dents and a slight bend in the tube as though it was stepped on at some point. I did not try to straighten it. It still produces a very strong fog horn sound so the dents do not affect that aspect. The majority of the horn is copper with the mouth piece being brass. IT measures 13 1/4" long and it is 3 5/8" in diameter at the bell shaped end.

This antique fog/ signal horn is fresh from a local estate where it sat in a box for decades. It has never been polished and bears an incredible depth of original patina. Measuring 13 inches long and 2 1/2 inches at the bell. This is a fully functional horn and is very, very loud! It is unmarked and I cannot determine its age, though I suspect it dates to the early 20th century. The horn is in very good condition with a couple small dents and a very minor crease near the bell that you can feel more than see. The pump works fine and it still makes a loud sound, It would certainly be heard from afar. These horns were used in boats and ships to notify other vessels of their presence within fog or at night. This UNUSUAL antique brass hand bell was probably made in New York or New England in the mid 1800's or earlier. I was told it was a fog bell. The style compares to brass mortar and pestles made in the same era. The brass bell is 5 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall. Including the bras handle. I have never seen another one like it. But some quick research indicates that this is most likely made by The Siebe Gorman& Co in the mid 1800's as a FOG HORN for maritime sailors and fishermen to sound out to approaching ships that they were near, or a ships FIRE HORN to alert sailors of onboard dangers. I have included a photo that shows what the unit would like if it came complete with the the bellows. This listing is just for a brass horn. There is no longer a bellows with this item. Only a horn is included! There are some indentations and some staining on the horn as can be seen in the photos. It appears that that the front portion of the horn might have once been ... moresoldered to the bottom section. But now the front portion can be removed. The horn includes the screw on collar that would attach the horn to the bellows. When I run my finger tips across the bottom, I can hear the horn amplify the sound! Brass Ship's Fog Horn, Hand Operated, Portable
BRASS FOG HORN Hand Operated- Portable Style This is an early style fog horn. Exact age and manufacturer is unknown. But this style has been in use since the 1800's. Take a close look at photos. This unit has not been cleaned or polished. It appears complete. With all the original parts. It has areas of soldering which look like repairs or resealing from quite a while ago. It slides up and down but does not produce sound. The plunger probably needs to be coated with something. Maybe the inside walls also. It is possible that with a little knowledge and effort, you could return it to functional status as it appears complete. It's quite a conversation piece and would be great for any collector or in your man cave. It came out of a U.S. Navy man's collection. Check the shipping costs before you bid. Antique TELE-CALL Electric Brass Horn with Oval Bell. Fog Horn? Description: Thanks for looking at this unique Tele-Call horn by the Mead Electric Signal Company of Cleveland Ohio. I came across this in my travels here in Northern Michigan. I could not find another like it on Ebay or doing a Google search so I assume it is a rare piece. It is all brass; a magnet does not stick to it anywhere. The bell opening measures 8 ¼ inches by 6 3/8 inches. The horn has some dents. Mostly on the elbow and three screws are missing on the motor. Total length is 12 inches. The Brass makers tag is on the end of the motor. It reads: TELE-CALL, THE MEAD ELECTRIC SIGNAL COMPANY, CLEVELAND OHIO, PATS. PENDING, VOLTS 115, WATTS 35, examined by the underwriter’s laboratories. Yes it does work, I connected the bare wires to an extension cord and it is loud ... moreand makes an awesome sound!
