Those family members are starting to pass on and the history of the bells have been forgotten. They have been appearing on the market over the last couple of decades. Named bells are returned and stored until the next ship with the same name is commissioned. If you can find a named bell, you have something very special. I have been restoring these pre-WWI bells to museum quality for several years. These bells are presented at retirement ceremonies. Vintage Antique Copper/Bronze Ship's Bell - Wall Mount With Bracket - Nice Bell
I got this nice Ship's Bell from a recent estate. It is 8" diameter at the bottom and approximately 5" overall height. All pieces including clapper and bracket are non-magnetic copper/bronze. This bell is'as received and has quite a bit of patina. Along with a couple spots of light green paint. I couldn't see any markings on it, but there may be something under all the patina, I just didn't want to disturb the finish looking for something that may not be there. Up for grabs is a old brass. Or bronze, Tugboat Ship Air Horn. I found it digging in a guys basement at an estate sale. Their basement was full of other old boating and shipping pieces. Living in the Seattle Puget Sound area you tend to come across this kind of stuff time and time again. These were typically used on Tugboats or other smaller commercial type of vessels that made numerous trips through Puget Sound and the Ocean. The previous owner was knowledgeable and told me that it should still work fine, and that it is very loud. Please note that I have not actually tested it though. This piece looks to have been painted a few times throughout its life. Imagine the stories it could probably tell! Handsome Antique Vtg Heavy Brass or Bronze Bell ~ Ship Train School ?
I was told this is an antique ship's bell. But it has no name on it, so please use your own expert judgment. I can tell you that it is beautiful, it has a nice look to it, it certainly looks like an antique casting, and it is substantial& heavy. It is 8" dia. at the bottom, and approx. 8.25" tall. I think the mounting piece was added later, but it too is nice& heavy-duty, and looks good with it(even though it is chrome on iron) The wood piece was how it was mounted to the wall in the estate I bought it from. The whole thing weighs about 11 1/2 lbs. so the bell alone is probably around 10 lbs. No clapper inside, you'll have to add something. But it would look great with a collection of maritime/nautical memorabilia! I do not add any handling fees; I try to charge you what the Post Office is going to charge me. *Rare* Antique Large Wooden Brass Bronze Nautical Maritime Shipyard BELL MOLD
Super Rare* Large Antique/ Vintage Wooden Brass Bronze Nautical Maritime Shipyard Bell Mold I can't find any others like this that have been sold! Fresh from an estate sale of a Naval Officer. I believe this to be a mold for a brass or bronze bell. Probably some how from the Navy shipyard. It is made of small blocks of wood, glued together then carved out into its present shape. The wood is painted black and appears to be oak. There is a"75# painted on top with white paint. No other marking that I can find. It stands approximately 13" tall and the bottom diameter is 14 1/4" The last pics show some bells with similar shapes that might have been made with similar molds.

A very nice great quality ships bell made in to a lamp. Possibly school or fireman related? It is un-signed. Believed to be made by Vanduzen& Tift, very similar in design and proportions. The large cast brass eagle slides in top, looks very nice, might not be original to bell? Sits on a turned wood base and 3 small feet. The feet have some heavier losses, see picture# 7. Bell portion is bronze I believe, rest of metal appears to be brass. Bell has a nice"ring" to it when tapped. Measures approx. 18" tall with eagle. Bell is 9" diameter. Heavy, weighs 14 lbs. Ship Bell - RARE Shape ! Old BRONZE BRASS Copper Patina Antique Vintage Nautical
This old Bell is a recent estate find. It is most unusual. It measures about 5 inches in height The top flat part is about an inch and a half cross; the valve opens up to a maximum of approximately four and three-quarter inches: there is some green discoloration on the belt. That is why we think it might be heavy copper. But it could be brass bronze. It appears to be a nautical bell. We do not have the mounting bracket. The only Farisour Manemet portion of the entire bell is the wire that goes from the clapper to the eye at the top. Is quite unusual and it's shape. Is being sold as is condition. Antique Large 14.5" Bronze Great Lakes Maritime Ship Bell J.F.Durston
I am very pleased to offer this great ship bell that I acquired several years ago from a fellow who's great uncle worked at the one port where the ship came in and where he had access to the ships. His nephew had a passion for the ships items and he gave this to him before the ship was sold back in the day. It is signed J F Durston which is a Great Lakes ship which was in service from 1908 to 1961 where it was towed to Germany as scrap. THe bell has nice size with a 14.5" diameter and stands 11" tall. I have taken pics showing the front. Back, and inside. There is no cracks, breaks, repairs or deformities and has a nice patina.I did do the magnet test and it did not stick and was non-magnetic! This is a really nice antique heavy bronze or brass bell with a heavy bronze or copper clapper. It looks like it was hand hammered. I am not sure if it was a old railroad locomotive steam engine bell or a maritime nautical bell. I do not find any marks. It is very heavy 7 pounds and measures 8" tall x 7.25" across at the bottom. Large Antique Bronze Church Bell Ship School Tower "Shieldhill" 60 lbs. 15" NICE
This is a nice antique bronze bell with the name"Shieldhill" There are no cracks or damage. Shieldhill is in Scotland. There is a local story in Shieldhill about the old 17th century church bell that was thrown in the Clyde river because the locals didn't want it moved in 1812 to the new church. Another bell served for many years before the original 1640's bell was recovered from the river and restored to the church. This may have been the 19th century bell that was used in the interim. It has a large iron clapper. It stands 15.5" tall overall, is 15" wide at the mouth and weighs 60 lbs including the clapper. We had it mounted outside our home for the last 40 years, it has a nice tone. Buyer will arrange for local pick up/shipping. For sale we have an amazing antique bronze bell. It is made by Meneely Bell Co. Troy N.Y. The craftsmanship on this bell is amazing. The stand is extremely detailed with a great patina. I believe the bell was either used on a ship or as some type of sailor memorial because the top of the bracket looks like breaking waves. The nut on the top of the bell looks like it was exposed to saltwater for quite some time. It is clear by the detail of the bell and the extra time spent to create the design on the stand that this bell was meant to be displayed and is something very special. If you look at photo 5 you will see some writing on the base but I cannot read what it says. The bell is in great condition with no cracks and has a great tone. The base of the bell is 17" wide. ANTIQUE 1827 BRONZE SHIP'S BELL - UNKNOWN
This bell was purchased in Bonn/Bad Godesberg. West Germany in 1973. It is solid bronze and weighs about 3 1/2 pounds. It has 1827 on one side and an insignia with a dragon on the other, imprinted during casting. The anchor measures 7 5/8" top to bottom and the bell itself measures 5 1/2" from the top of the hanger to the rim and is 5 3/8" diameter at the rim. It has a lovely patina and wonderful tone. I purchased it for use on my father's yacht. But unfortunately he never had a chance to use it and has been carefully kept since purchase. I'm SO tired of shoveling snow or being stuck indoors, and spring is only officially 1 month away, so I've decided to start liquidating all the cra,uh,valuable antiques and collectables I collected last year by going to thousands of garage, estate and tag sales, hundreds of auctions and by diving into more than a few dumpsters to make room for this years spoils. I bring you the finest and eclectic assortment of shi,uh,STUFF on Ebay! This item is a HUGE ANTIQUE SOLID CAST BRONZE SHIP'S BELL with DETACHABLE BRONZE CLAPPER in VERY GOOD CONDITION! I found this just this Saturday at an estate sale in a waterside community on Long Island's north shore called Bayville. It was buried in the garage in a decrepid old cardboard box. The outside is painted primer red. Perhaps it was to cover ... morethe fact that it was solid bronze from someone who might steal it for scrap value. It apparently had been hanging outside for quite some time, as it has the remnants of mud wasp and hornet nests inside it. The bell measures 10" tall and has a 10" diameter at the base. There are no makers marks on it that I can see. The bell is in perfect condition with NO cracks, dents or splits, and it has a deep, rich tone. As it is quite heavy(25 lbs WITHOUT the clapper) the winner may pick it up to save shipping charges. YOU MUST PAY THE QUOTED CHARGES FIRST, HOWEVER, THEN I WILL REFUND THEM BACK TO YOU THROUGH PAYPAL AFTER YOU PICK IT UP.
