Up for grabs is a old brass. Or bronze, Tugboat Ship Air Horn. I found it digging in a guys basement at an estate sale. Their basement was full of other old boating and shipping pieces. Living in the Seattle Puget Sound area you tend to come across this kind of stuff time and time again. These were typically used on Tugboats or other smaller commercial type of vessels that made numerous trips through Puget Sound and the Ocean. The previous owner was knowledgeable and told me that it should still work fine, and that it is very loud. Please note that I have not actually tested it though. This piece looks to have been painted a few times throughout its life. Imagine the stories it could probably tell! ESTATE FIND! This is dated. Is it 1881? It was in a can in the garage, they thought it was a fire extinguisher! It bolted to the ship dek and you pump the cannister and it blows big time out the horn! Needs a polich, one bracket at foot missing? not sure what was there) has a big shallow dent in the horn part at the back and small scratches and dings here and there but overall really amazingly good, sound is awesome loud! Vintage Small Ship or Boat Copper & Brass Fog Horn
For auction is a vintage mouth-blown copper and brass fog horn for a small ship or boat. These were used to signal one's position to other boats in conditions where visability was bad.This one has a couple of dents and a slight bend in the tube as though it was stepped on at some point. I did not try to straighten it. It still produces a very strong fog horn sound so the dents do not affect that aspect. The majority of the horn is copper with the mouth piece being brass. IT measures 13 1/4" long and it is 3 5/8" in diameter at the bell shaped end.

This antique fog/ signal horn is fresh from a local estate where it sat in a box for decades. It has never been polished and bears an incredible depth of original patina. Measuring 13 inches long and 2 1/2 inches at the bell. This is a fully functional horn and is very, very loud! It is unmarked and I cannot determine its age, though I suspect it dates to the early 20th century. But some quick research indicates that this is most likely made by The Siebe Gorman& Co in the mid 1800's as a FOG HORN for maritime sailors and fishermen to sound out to approaching ships that they were near, or a ships FIRE HORN to alert sailors of onboard dangers. I have included a photo that shows what the unit would like if it came complete with the the bellows. This listing is just for a brass horn. There is no longer a bellows with this item. Only a horn is included! There are some indentations and some staining on the horn as can be seen in the photos. It appears that that the front portion of the horn might have once been ... moresoldered to the bottom section. But now the front portion can be removed. The horn includes the screw on collar that would attach the horn to the bellows. When I run my finger tips across the bottom, I can hear the horn amplify the sound! This unit has not been cleaned or polished. It appears complete. With all the original parts. It has areas of soldering which look like repairs or resealing from quite a while ago. It slides up and down but does not produce sound. The plunger probably needs to be coated with something. Maybe the inside walls also. For sale is an antique brass Japanese fog or hunting horn. I cannot be exactly sure. As I researched the piece, and the few others I have found describe this piece as both. Regardless, it is a pretty unique interesting piece. There is a makers mark, or signature, in Japanese(pictured) This piece does work when you blow through it. Horn measures 8" long. 2.5" wide, and 1.5" deep. There is a little wear as you can see in the photos. You can see some patina in places. Someone wrote something on masking tape a long time ago, and it is stuck on there. I currently don't have any cleaning materials to remove it, but it is removable I would think. I think this is off a boat. It works well and sounds like a fog horn. Horn is made by the American Strombos Co. of Philadelphia. Serial#5539 Patented Oct. 15. 1918. She tells me her husband got this off of a salvaged riverboat. It appears to be made if brass which has a beautiful patina to it and comes with the attachments shown in the photos. This horn did function when I applied compressed air to it. Very loud. As shown in the photos the horn measures approximately 24 1/2 inches long. Please ask all questions before bidding. ca. 1900 Antique Brass Ship's Fog Horn 16" Long Maritime Nautical Boat
This antique fog horn was part of a lot of late 19th/early 20th century nautical items. It measures 15.5" long and is made of brass. A few dings here and there but solid overall.
