Up for grabs is a old brass. Or bronze, Tugboat Ship Air Horn. I found it digging in a guys basement at an estate sale. Their basement was full of other old boating and shipping pieces. Living in the Seattle Puget Sound area you tend to come across this kind of stuff time and time again. These were typically used on Tugboats or other smaller commercial type of vessels that made numerous trips through Puget Sound and the Ocean. The previous owner was knowledgeable and told me that it should still work fine, and that it is very loud. Please note that I have not actually tested it though. This piece looks to have been painted a few times throughout its life. Imagine the stories it could probably tell! This is an old Falcon air whistle or horn. It measures about 7+1/2 inches long and the base measures 5+1/4 inches long and 1+7/8 inches at the widest point. Antique Brass Pump Boat horn Whistle late 1800's early 1900's
Listed for sale is an antique maritime brass pump horn/whistle. It is in very nice condition and the pull lifts smoothly. The wood handle is in very nice condition with no chips or cracks. The pump works fine. It is not as loud as a modern fog horn. But it is definitely audible. STEAM SIREN ANTIQUE BRASS HORN TRACTION ENGINE LAUNCH BOAT WHISTLE LUBRICATOR
LARGE STEAM SIREN WITH ANTIQUE BRASS HORN Placed for auction is a large steam siren. The sounding mechanism of the steam siren is an identical copy of a U.S. Navy siren. I scaled it down for use on small live marine crafts. It has the centrifugal brake system just like the Navy sirens. The main sounding device is machined out of brass and has oil-impregnated bearings. The outside housing is made of Alum. with a black hard anodized finish. I did this to keep the weight down. The horn is an antique brass horn and it has small dings and scratches as shown in the attached pictures. It is used. The condition is very good as it has seen very little use The weight is approximately 11 pounds. The pipe size is ¾ NPT. The hex is 2 inches. The height is 14 1/8 inches. The main body is 5 inches in diameter. The width of the horn is 4 ½ inches ... morein diameter. It sounds great and can be heard for 2 or 3 miles. It is suitable for use on any small nautical craft such as steamboats. Launches, and traction engines. It requires little steam volume to activate. The normal steam working pressure is from 120– 200 PSI. It also sounds great on compressed air and needs 120 pounds of air(40 gal. tank) A ¾ NPT whistle valve is needed and not included with the siren. It should be suitable on a Stanley Steamers. Vintage FOG HORN Cunningham Air Whistle 4B from Seattle, Large, 60 Pounds
Cunningham Air Whistle. Large, purchased while running to the Seattle airport in 2005 and returned to Dallas as a carry-on under two seats. TSA had never seen one before, but they let me on the plane anyway. If you want to start conversations, carry a ship horn on a flight. Displayed in my home for years, but I am downsizing now. I was told that it came from a Seattle ferry, but do not know if it is true- I was going to miss the flight and I could not stay to chat. Memorable day, and something the family still talks about. This is a massive horn. Weighs 60 pounds. Solid bronze according to Cunningham. Yes, 60 pounds- I carried it through two airports. Just weighed it on the bathroom scale- still 60 pounds. Complete with sound disks- see picture. Inlet is via a flange- no threads. Plate says Model 4B. Most likely dates from the 1940's. ... moreBut I do not know. Dimensions: Length: 22.5" Bell Width: 11" End Width: 9.5" Shipping will be EXPENSIVE. I have to build a crate. And that takes time and money, probably $100 just for crate materials and a day to build it. Expect shipping weight to be over 90 pounds. Expect dimensions to be oversize for all carriers. I have put $300 as a shipping cost, and this is why: I have to get plywood, I have to cut it, I have to mount the horn on a board, I have to crate around it, I have to reinforce the crate, and then I have to get it to UPS. It will cost more than that in time, materials, and freight. Or, I can just drop it off at the UPS store and have them pack and ship for about the same amount. I don't know how it would hold up in a box, unless the box was gigantic. You can get a quote yourself: box will be about 30"x18"x16" or so, and weigh 90 to 100 pounds. The measurements are 11.5" front to back, the trumpet flare is 6.5" across, and it stands 9" tall, threaded inlet to top. Weight is 15 pounds. Threaded inlet is standard 1/2" NPT. It could be from a maritime or logging application or? Multiple coats of paint, everything is as found. ~ There's entirely too much stuff around here.
