Cast iron stool appears to have its original dark green paint with black and gold highlights(see photos) The design of the cast iron work appears to have some Eastlake pierced open work grill design. In addition to the ornate Victorian drape effect of oak leaves and the scrollwork feet, and the flowing/swirling Art Nouveau oak leaf and vine designs. Appears to have original pine or soft wood cover top. With is covered with the original straw– the straw covered with remnants of original jute material. The jute is covered with a 1930s era cloth material. And covering this material is a worn dark forest green velvet. The wood stool top is easily recoverable if new owner should so desire. Heavy piece– weights about 16 pounds. Markings: impressed numbers“25” and“5” on underside of stool. Impressed into cast iron. I have for auction an estate find. This is a Victorian Footstool. Often called a slipper stool. The legs are cast iron, with an ornate design. The legs are attached to a wooden frame that has been covered with horsehair, a batting and then the leather piece. From the underside their are 8 wooden balls that have been attached with nails. The leather has been tacked and nailed on the side of the board and then the legs were screwed to the top. The approximate dimensions are 11 1/2" long& 8 3/4" wide. The legs are almost 5" tall and with the cushion on the stool 6" high. I did not see any breaks or repairs in the cast iron. Marked on the bottom: STYLAIRE, JUL 12. 1956, COLUMBUS INDIANA, MADE IN THE USA, The chair measures 12" W x 13 1/2" D x 34 1/4" H, Seat height is 24 1/2" Weighs 14 1/2 pounds prior to packaging. Condition: I found this piece in filthy condition. I spent many hours cleaning it. I did manage to get most of the paint spots off. But there are still a few! I cleaned the joints with Q-tips. I cleaned the chrome with NOXON and 0000 steel wool. The footstool/footrest lifts and pulls out nicely. There is spotting and rusting marks on the chrome. Spotting and dirt marks on the underside can still be seen. The seat and back have a vinyl material on it and it still has some tiny paint marks. The black rubber footrest also has some paint marks. The ... moreseat is overall sturdy/tight and safe to use. There are a few dents. Paint chipping in a few areas. Please review the photos- they tell the story better than I do. This lovely little nursery item is a child's footstool or step stool made of varnished pine. It has four turned legs and a rectangular seat with rounded corners. Made in Chile. The top features the alphabet and numbers 0-10. With two dwarves or elves holding a scroll. The scroll states: This little stool is mine. I use it all the time. To reach the things I couldn't. And not the things I shouldn't. This sweet stool measures 7 3/4" tall. The seat is 13" x 8 3/4" In good. Solid condition vintage condition. The varnish on the top is worn in places(this shows up more in the photos than in real life) and a small dings and marks here and there. Still a very cute piece.
