ANTIQUE TURKISH SILVER OIL BOTTLE with LEAF DECORATIONS Presented is a very nice ... moreTurkish silver oil bottle made before 1923. The oil bottle is made of three pieces: the base. The body of the bottle, and the cap. The base is threaded and screws onto a threaded post in the bottom of the bottle. The cap is also threaded and screws onto the neck of the bottle. The cap has three branches with oval leaves that drape down the body of the bottle. The branches are nicely decorated with fruit and the individual veins in the leaves. The base has similar decoration. This bottle likely held oil, perhaps for perfume or anointing. You can still see some of the original hand-hammered finish on the body of the bottle. The bottle has an old feel to it, and is perhaps over 150 years old. The bottle is hallmarked on the base and on the flowers on the top with the Turkish tugra mark used before 1923. Not enough is visible to determine which sultan or dynasty. We have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be at least 900 purity silver. The condition is excellent. The decorations on the lid and base are very crisp and clear. There is some surface wear commensurate with age and use. But it is minor. There is a very small dimple in the side of the bottle, quite tiny. There has been a repair to the base as shown in the photos. There are no breaks, no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals and no other repairs. The bottle measures about 2 7/8 inches in diameter and 7 1/4 inches tall.
