An outstanding feature is that it was made in 1785 and is approximately 228 years old! The English silversmith hallmarks along the bottom edge spell out its unique history. Maker's Mark: Bold initials"RH" in an oval escutcheon. Granted in 1783 to the maker, Robert Hennell Silver Mark: Lion Passant- sterling silver content.925 Date Letter: Small letter"k" in a shield-like escutcheon. Equals 1785 date of assay in London City Mark: crowned leopard's head" means London was place of manufacture Duty Mark: left facing profile of George III" from Dec 1784 to May 1786 indicated duty was paid The piece stands about 2 inches high on 4 ball and claw feet. It is 3 1/4 inches long by 2 1/4 inches wide. The entire salt cellar weighs approximately 6 ounces. With the silver frame at 2 ounces and the glass insert at 4 ounces. The silver frame has beautiful lattice work along the upper perimeter. Topped off by an elegant edge trim. Along the sides, is the graceful engraving into the silver of a garland of roses, intertwined with a ribbon. Also, one side is engraved a capital letter"B" and the other side has a design resembling a clock face. There was no indication of any defects or scratches on the silver frame. The cobalt blue insert. Has an amazing color, especially when held up to sunlight or other bright light. At the bottom of the insert is an etching of an eight pointed star. This refracts the light passing through, enhancing its beauty. There is a 3/4 inch imperfection and a small chip on the bottom outside edge of the insert. This Stopper can of course be replaced. The Tapering Bottle Measures 5 ¼ inches in length and the Fine Silver Top which is shaped like a Crown with no dents. It seems there could be a very small band of Silver Missing at the bottom of the collar 0.2 of a cm. This is where the original Hall Marks would have been and would have been dated around 1895. Overall Condition is Very good with no Damage. Dents to the top and no chips to the glass. Lovely Vintage Rainbow Glass Blue Decanter/Perfume Bottle with Stopper
This is a lovely vintage Rainbow Glass Small Decanter or Perfume Bottle. The color on this one is an eye popping blue. It would have been made between the 40's and 60's. It measures 8" high with the stopper in. As with any of my stoppered or lidded items. I cannot guarantee that this is the stopper that started life with this piece but it came to me as a set, matches and will come to you that way. It bears the maker's sticker on the front. There is a pontil present on the underside. I find no chips or cracks on the bottle. There are a couple of tiny flakes off the bottom edge of the stopper where it sits inside the piece but you do not see this with the stopper in the piece. Description Welcome to my Auction. For a superb Antique Victorian- Solid silver& deep cobalt blue glass. Miniature scent/ perfume bottle. With a corked screw top so no need for a stopper. Circa 1880 In wonderful condition. Not hallmarked as was so typical with these Antique Victorian scent bottles. The beautiful flat tubular glass is in lovely condition. The blue bottle is the most wonderful colour being the deepest of the cobalt shades with a hint of purple. With no chips or nibbles. The solid silver screw on lid has heavy repousse silver work of flowers& leaves. Absolutely stunning. I can feel a slight indentation to the lid where the tip of my finger rests when unscrewing the lid. This is very hard to see due to the ornate decoration to the lid. I mention for total accuracy. The scent bottle Measures approx- 6.8cms or 2.6 inches ... morein height. Weighs- 23.4 grams. A beautiful miniature scent bottle which has clearly been treasured& looked after as its wonderful condition shows. Mottled glass such as this one is commonly attributed to Czech or Bohemian glasshouses, another possibility for this unmarked art glass. This tiny scent bottle is a truly beautiful cobalt blue color in very good condition! It has nicks on the top and a very few tiny nicks to the cut glass edges. Please look at all photo's closely. Overall. It's in really great shape. I believe this scent bottle must be at least 100 years old and probably older. I would not be at all surprised if it were made in the late 1800's but it is NOT marked. The glass is hand cut and the lines are imperfect. The sterling top is in excellent condition with no dents, dings or splits. The cork inside is intact and whole. I can still smell a hint of whatever perfume used to be kept in it. This incredibly beautiful perfume bottle is approximately three and three quarters high and one and three quarters in diameter, with stunning iridescent like colors of blue and Silver around the bottom half and incredible green glass throughout. Standing about 2 3/4” tall(4 3/4” including the chain and ring) This beautiful pyramid design glass is beneath the hinged cap which snaps tightly closed. Attached to the collar around the neck is a ball chain which attaches to the ring from which this is all hung on a chatelaine. BEAUTIFUL BLUE PRESSED GLASS VINTAGE PERFUME COLOGNE SCENT BOTTLE with FAN STOPPER W/ ATTACHED GLASS DAUBER Very pretty old bottle. Only identifying mark is a barely visable clear sticker on the bottom that I think reads Made in Japan. The bottle has been used because there is a slight bit of residue on the bottom in one of the corners. The bit of damage I find is a small chip on the stopper. You can see it in picture#2. The bottle stands 3-1/2" tall with the stopper and 2" without it. The bottle is 2-1/4" at its widest point. This is a very pretty bottle with the glass dauber still attached to the stopper. The white enamel is just the best showing the flowers against the glass in high art glass style. The bottles stand 10 1/4" tall by 3" in dia at the middle wide point. There are not chips cracks nor breaks that we can find. The one top finial is not as rounded as the other. The gold trim is worn on the bottles from over 120 years of normal use. Each bottle is marked on the bottom with its own number. One is 50 the other is 52. We would call these Bristol glass due to their enameled decoration. Must see in person to fully appreciate. A beautiful and very stylish late nineteenth century scent bottle with a globe base and elegant lock neck. All beautifully cut. The glass is a stunning and highly sought-after blue colour graduating to clear at the base of the bottle. The screw-top lid is made from English sterling silver, hallmarked for Birmingham 1896, making this a true Victorian example. The makers mark is also present CM for the silversmith, Charles May. The top of the lid has a vacant circular cartouche which could be engraved by your silversmith if you wished to personalize it.
