RARE PERFUME BOTTLE LIBBEY COBALT BLUE CUT TO CLEAR ART GLASS WITH PEACOCK NR, Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album DESCRIPTION: This listing is for a perfume bottle that was surely made by the Libbey Glass Company of Toledo. Ohio. An extremely similar one signed Libbey appears on page 137 in the rarities section of Pearson's book A Study Of American Cut Glass Collections. It is also shown on page 50 of his Volume#2 book. My piece has cobalt blue color glass cased over clear glass on the bottle and a black overlay stopper. The piece in the books is said to just have a black glass overlay. The bird that I believe is a peacock; looks to be identical and the 2 swirled balls ... morematch also. The only real difference that I see beside the color is that my stopper is longer near the top and mine does not appear to be signed. Similar cut to clear pieces appear in the Fauster's Libbey Glass book and they give me the impression that this piece was probably made in the 1920's or 1930's. It measures 8-1/2" high and the base is 2-3/8" in diameter. The weight is 8.7 ounces. The blank is blown with a polished pontil on the bottom. The unpolished or frosted peacock and plant cutting has good depth and nice detail work. The peacock is a common ingredient in many Art Nouveau style items. The overall condition is excellent. The stopper fits very well and sits at an appropriate level. The stopper and dauber look to be perfect except for a pinpoint sized nick that is probably an exposed bubble with a swirl of minute bubbles next to it where the pontil was polished on top. The bottle is in great condition and I would call it near perfect. The interior looks good, but to be picky I'll mention some scratches where the dauber has rubbed. These can only be seen if you hold it up to bright light and look closely for them. This piece could appeal

Walton From a Connecticut Estate Auction comes this Gorgeous 1896 HINGED RÉPOUSSÉ STERLING SILVER& TURQUOISE CAP CUT CRYSTAL SCENT or SMELLING SALTS PERFUME BOTTLE. This diminutive bottle stands 2 7/8” tall on a 7/8” diameter base. As shown. The hinged lid is incredible with floral, fern and foliate decoration as well as inset stones which I believe are turquoise. It is hallmarked for 1896 Birmingham, England and the maker's mark, while indistinct is probably that of George Edwin Walton. The clear glass tube is deeply cut with a star and cross-hatch design. Snap the lid up and the tiniest glass stopper I've ever seen is revealed.1/8” in diameter and about 3/4” long. Especially ... moreconsidering it is almost 120 years old. This is in excellent used condition. The hinged lid works fine and the top closes securely and I don't see any other issues with the top. The glass has most scuffing on the bottom as well as a couple of tiny nicks on the bottom edge as well as a few others in the body although those are virtually invisible because of the elaborate cut work. NR OPALINE PALAIS ROYALE FRENCH PERFUME SCENT BOTTLE CASKET PORCELAIN PORTRAITS
You are bidding on a very beautiful green French opaline scent/perfume bottle with four different porcelain portraits. I am not an expert in this field. But from what I have seen, this appears to be from the Palais Royale era, mid 1800's, and sold as one of the many souvenirs. I have seen similar ormolu scent bottles with various scenes of Paris's architectural highlights such as the Place Vendome, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, etc. though very few with portraits. Dimensions are 7" high to the top of the finial and just slightly under 4" in diameter at the bulbous widest point. In excellent display condition, there is some verdigris and darkening of the ormolu that has blackened and consistent with its age. A warm patination overall covers the ormolu and has burnished it to a deep rich gold. One of the portraits of the young ... moremaiden has a slight bend in the cartouche(picture 8) that I note for accuracy. I also noticed within the open mouth of the bottle, there is a crease that I can't tell if it is a crease or a hairline from in-the-making, which I have shown in photo 9. No chips or repairs. The four portraits on the bottle are gorgeous. One cherubic child in prayer. That could definitely pass as a putti if you added wings, the second, a darling choir boy in purple cloak and white collared blouse, a little girl with hands clasped to her chest and revered expression. The fourth portrait is a young maiden reading her letter she has just penned. The colors are vibrant and clear and appears to be on porcelain that is hard and shiny. The intricate design of the metal ormolu is like lace on the bottle. The base, has a sturdy beading connecting the four feet that are delicately scrolled. The clear apple green of the opaline is so pretty that you want to bite into it like a green apple. You know this is an early piece because you can see the pontil on its base. picture 14) The piece de resistance however. Is the oriental magistrate, who is smoking a hookah, as a finial, with scalloped beading on its rim.

This is a very cool art glass perfume or scent bottle. Made in Czechoslovakia Circa 1920's-1930's during the Art Deco period. It is signed on the bottom with an authentic Made in Czecho Slovakia mark on the bottom. In an oval for with Made in. In the center of Czecho Slovakia. It has a great design to it. It is a mold blown piece. It has a hobnail type raised design all over the body. With small points. With yellow hand painted enameling on the tips of each one. Reminds me of a flower. The stopper is a mushroom shaped top with a stem down into the bottom which is broken off. And the body is a bulbous round body with wide flarin rim. Great condition other than the stopper damage listed above. It measures approx. 3-1/2" by 3-1/2"

It belonged to Dick's great-grandmother who may have owned it in the late 1800's to early 1900's. There are no visible chips. Cracks, stains, mars, or rubs in the glass or frame. It is complete with original matching bottle and stopper(see pictures) It stands about 4" tall and is a little over 3" wide. The egg itself is about 3" tall and 1-3/4" in diameter. It retains its aged patina- n o cleaning has been performed but may be done at your discretion. The hinge and clasp are solid and work smoothly.
