This is a one-of-a-kind artisan crafted lead crystal perfume bottle. It has a sticker on the bottom and is signed by the artist and made in England. I got some good pictures of the etched signature. It is executed in a matte glass in water shades of blue. Blue green and foamy white waves. The dolphins are raised off the surface of the bottle and look like they are diving into the surf. This charming vessel stands approximately six inches tall and is in remarkable condition for it's age- no chips or cracks. The piece exhibits all the trademarks of an early piece of handblown and handcut glass like the minute bubbles in the glass. A perfect piece for a French inspired dressing table or to hold oils or salts for your bath. All items are from my gracious smoke-free home. BEAUTIFUL TEAR CATCHER VICTORIAN ERA LACHRYMATORY 5-6" STUNNER in AMBER AS PICTURED Tear bottles were fairly common in Roman times. Around the time of Christ, when mourners filled small glass bottles or cups with tears and placed them in burial tombs as symbols of respect. Sometimes women were even paid to cry into these vessels, as they walked along the mourning procession. Those crying the loudest and producing the most tears received the most compensation, or so the legend goes. The more anguish and tears produced, the more important and valued the deceased person was perceived to be. Tear bottles reappeared during the Victorian period of the 19th century. When those mourning the loss of loved ones would collect their tears in bottles with special stoppers that allowed the tears to evaporate. When the tears had evaporated, the mourning ... moreperiod would end. In some American Civil War stories. Women were said to have cried into tear bottles and saved them until their husbands returned from battle. Their collected tears would show the men how much they were adored and missed. Victorian handblown glass tear catcher or laydown bottle with stopper
This is a mid-Victorian. Hand blown glass bottle. Bottles in this shape were sometimes used for perfume and sometimes for mourning as a tear catcher or lachrymatory bottle. It's said that a widow would collect her tears in the bottle and empty them on the grave of her husband on the anniversary of his death. This bottle measures 5" and. Remarkably, still has its original stopper. It retains almost all of its gilding on the top, bottom, sides, and stopper. The front and back sides have thumb-sized dimples for grip. No chips or cracks.

6.5" long tear catcher vial. Has one very small chip in the lip. Has some dirt on inside of vial. Bottom crudely ground but polished. Main body features four divets on two of the sides for better thumb and forefinger grip. The two sides with grips also have three Xs per that are gilded. A lot of the gold has rubbed off. The stopper area looks like the inside was ground but not polished in two areas. The only reason I can think this was done was to add better grip for the cork.
