This exceptional antique Victorian claret jug has a tapering cylindrical cut glass panelled form. Onto a star cut colet foot. The claret jug is fitted with an exceptional English hallmarked sterling silver gilt mount. The mount is heavily embellished with chased floral and scrolling leaf decoration. This impressive claret jug is ornamented with cast sterling silver gilt mask decoration to either side of the mount and the underside of the spout. The lower portion of the mount is embellished with a shaped pierced decorated border. The claret jug is fitted with a hallmarked sterling silver gilt domed cover surmounted by a flame style finial. The sterling silver gilt handle is embellished with chased scrolling decoration and ornamented with a cast silver gilt mask to the lower terminal. Antique Art Glass Perfume Bottle Base Light Purple w Enameled Flowers & Gold
This is an old perfume bottle base acquired from an estate. I have no idea of the age or origin but it appears to be a vintage piece. It is about 3 ½” tall and 2 ½” in diameter at the widest point towards the base. I’m assuming that it had some type of sprayer/atomizer that screwed into the metal top part. The glass is lightweight(almost like blown glass) and clear but has a light purple cast to it. There are enameled white flowers and leaf outlines. The leaves have a gold coloring. It is in used condition. There are no chips to the glass. The base has some surface scratches from use but there are no scratches on the sides. The metal neck top has a deep indent/scratch on the side. Perhaps this is a seam? definitely not a crack) There is some minor residue on the inside. This is a beautiful bottle and stand. The base is marked with Made and Guaranteed by M B Co 291 USA, I was told the stands for Meriden Silver co, and that this company produced limited edition silver and silver plate items that they numbered so perhaps that is what the 291 is? But I believe it to be an Irving W. Rice& Co. Import from Italy/W. Germany, but there are no marks found. Measurements: 8" tall& 4" wide at base approx. Condition: Very good to near excellent vintage condition. No chips, no cracks, beautiful flowing amber glass with a hint of gold fleck in glass-gold tone has some wear(see photos) but really overall very nice- nothing missing to the best of my knowledge and nothing changed to the best of my knowledge.
