Mid 19th C French Ruby Red Palais Royal Perfume Casket With Bronze Ormolu Mounts
You are bidding on an exquisite Palais Royal French ruby red perfume box or casket with the original square form perfume bottles. The casket has beautiful gilt bronze ormolu mounts& the perfume bottles have ground glass stoppers as well as gilt bronze lidded caps. The bottles sit in a gilt twisted wire frame basket which keeps the bottles suspended in the casket. The box appears to be complete with its original key& swivel handles. The square form casket is made of a very heavy ruby glass& the perfume bottles look to be hand blown with ground pontil bases. The quality& thickness of the glass indicates that this might be a Baccarat casket& we believe it dates to the mid 1800's. The casket is not marked in any way but early Baccarat was only marked with a paper label& the company relied on the quality of their products ... moreto speak for itself& thus did not need any identifying marks. The casket measures about 4 1/2" x 2 7/8" stands about 4 5/8" tall. The condition is very good. There are some small air bubble inclusions in the glass& a small imperfection on the front of the lid where one of these bubbles has been ground through. The gold gilding has worn through on the more exposed parts of the ormolu but the internal gilding is in very fine condition. The glass stopper of one of the perfume bottles is stuck with residue from whatever perfume was left in the bottle. Although the key does turn, the internal iron mechanism of the lock no longer secures the lid. There are also some minor surface scratches to the casket with the worst ones on the base. Made of thick ruby red glass, the bottle is mounted inside elaborate bronze base and bottle neck with handles. Bronze have beautiful relief of vine leafs and grapes all around the bottle neck and on the bottom plate with bronze cut in shape of grape leafs. The stopper is tall, 6 panels cut,with frosted dauber which is marked on the bottom in red with number 93. The perfume bottle is in mint condition for it's age, there are 2 imperfections on glass,one near the neck,tiny cut in hot glass and pin head burst air bubble near the bottom. Early 19th Century French Ormolu and Glass Vanity Bottle Set
This beautiful vanity set circa 1820(est) is in wonderful condition and loaded with character! The ormolu contains harps. Horses, and Greek or roman figures as well as roping, carvings and leaves. Gorgeous! I have seen a four bottle set in similar condition sell for nearly $2100 at auction. The set when put together in the holder stands 5 1/2 inches tall and nearly 4 inches across. Study the pictures well.you can see the detail and beauty as well as the condition of the set. All pieces are present. No breakage or repairs. Mild gilt loss/tarnish(basically where hands touched the tops to remove them) I have not cleaned or polished any of the pieces as I am not a professional, but, I'm fairly certain the color would be more beautiful than it is if it were lightly cleaned. I wonderful piece of French boudoir history. It features four separate bottles. Each feature an ornate collar. A faceted stopper, and daubers. The caddy has a laurel type design with flowers, handles on each side, and four claw feet. Everything is in wonderful antique condition. The caddy is in Excellent condition with only a couple of tarnish spots. The bottles have no chips or cracks. The collars are in at least Very Good condition. Two easily come off the bottles.
