Official Paved Road and Commercial Survey of the United States. Edition 1262. Copyright, by National Map Company Indianapolis, Indiana. I cannot find a date for publication or for the copyright. However, my research leads me to believe that it is from the late 1920s. The cover is soft leather. And it will measure 11 3/4 inches by 15 inches. It will contain 116 pages. The survey will have some edge fraying and dog ears on the corners from use. The spine is still well glued together. The inside pages are clean with some of the pages in color. Please be aware that these National Geographic and Rand McNally Maps are anywhere from 30 to 80 years old. They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So some of the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. On occasion maps may smell musty from the ... moreway they have been stored in the past. When the map is kept in an open area the musty smell will fade away in time. Vintage 1930's Scarce Pictorial Mileage Map USA Pacific Greyhound Lines Art Deco
Here is an elegant and quite scarce Pictorial/Transportation Theme/Route map from about the 1930's or even the late 1920's executed in the sleek. Simplified Art Deco style prevent during the Depression era. The map depicts the route lines of the Pacific Greyhound Lines bus system. But as you can clearly see, and the map proves, the Pacific Greyhound system traveled the entire United States, not just the Pacific Coast. This fact makes the map and it's distributor all the more interesting. It is not dated. But it is clearly pre-WWII and the Art Deco design is obvious and speaks to the map's age. The US continental lines are laid on a simplified map of the country and shown in the wide. Black ribbon method that you see on maps of the early 1900's whose only intention was to show the company's railroad lines. For this ... morereason, I think this map may have not been intended for distribution, but for display at Greyhound terminals and stations; perhaps usually framed and/or for sale. I don't believe this map was targeted to a youth audience. The coloration is equally simple, yet elegant: Goldenrod yellow and black on ivory colored paper. The illustrator of the map is not mentioned. Which is a shame, because he or she was a real artist. Encircling the map are small illustrations of National Parks. Big cities' skylines, such as New York and Chicago, famous land marks, and major national points of interest. These illustrations are some of the best I've seen on pictorial maps from this time period. The Golden Age of the pictorial map genre, the 1930's. The size of the map is 30" x 20" It has been rolled. Wow. This map has it all. Besides the fold out map it has 56 pages of detailed city maps. Every city is listed with population and points of interest. It also lists the official register of hotels garages and service stations. Population of Detroit was 1.378,000 and a nightly stay at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island for $8.00.It also lists state parks, fish and game laws, Milagros tables. The speed limits were business 15, residence 20, and elsewhere, careful and prudent. It also has ads including the back page for Coke. It has some spotting and a small tear on the back cover and some pencil handwriting on a page. The fold out map is in good shape and has no rips and has a few spots on the edges. Perfect glovebox item for a restored 1929 Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, etc. automobile.

Here is a very interesting Map Poster from 1941 that uses a map to carry its Football theme and advertising of high-end men's sportswear and outdoor clothing gear made by the Albert Richard Company of Milwaukee. Wisconsin. Actually. The store distributing this poster is Colyer& Co. The Store for Men and Boys Since 1976" Newwark. New Jersey, as it reads on the reverse side of the poster. Albert Richard clothiers manufactured top shelf. Expensive outdoor men's and women's appearl in th 1940's and 1950's. That company used sports, such as football, as a medium to advertise. Albert Richard distributed several football map posters similar in design and style as this one; this is one of the more colorful of the posters. I have also listed a similar, yet different, football theme Albert Richard map today) This map promotes ... morethe 1941 All-American College football and lists the many colleges with their football nicknames and their records for the previous 1940 season. The map of the US is large and shows just about all the major college football teams. The illustrations are in vibrant and many colors and designed in a very"upbeat" style with a definite 1940's look. Since this poster was printed and distributed during the 1941 football seasan(September-December) It's likely that it was the last produced by Albert Richard for several years, due to WWII beginning for the US during that season. The other Albert Richard football maps I have seen, and owned, were all dated post-1949. If you have any information about this, please let me know. This map poster is 25 3/4" x 19" On the reverse is printed the schedules for the major conferences for 1941. As well as the Albert Richard products. Here is an interesting and beautiful advertising poster/promotional item that uses a MAP of the United States as its medium and Football as its theme. It is a map poster made in 1950 that was distributed to promote the Albert Richards Sportswear company. A clothier who specialized in high-end outdoor clothing for both men and women. But especially men, such as jackets, sweaters, hats, gloves- just about anything that an outfitter of today would carry. Albert Richard was the Ralph Lauren Polo line of the 1940's and 1950's- except that Albert Richard was the genuine original; Ralph Lauren is just copying Albert Richard and others of that time who manufactured"classic" clothes. Albert Richard distributed several other football map posters similar to this using football as a theme; this one is somewhat rare; I've never seen ... morethis one on eaby before. It shows the All-American team from colleges and the pros of that day. The design and style of this map carries that distinctive 1950's or Mid-Century flavor and coloration. It is loaded with football schedules. Teams, conference notes, and other information, front and back. On the reverse are the 1950 game schedules for what to me looks like every college in the USA. The US map is secondary in importance of the advertising on this piece. But it does show the states and the locations of the major conferences. As originally, in 4 equal size panels. There is no color loss. Crack-through, or other damage along the folds.
