Now we're experts in many things- but not of the nautical sort. Even so. We've acquired a group of antique and beautiful nautical charts. This part of the grouping are all weather charts- all 19" x 12" All red and blue. This chart is dated"September 1979" so it's is over 30 YEARS OLD. This one is MSC-6. USCOMM-NOAA-DC-A5741. It basically lists all the weather stations. FM channels, buoys, transmitters, stations, etc. These are in good condition other than a very slight yellowing that is only slightly more pronounced at the edges and of course the center fold- which may have additional folds near the edges. The center fold is also a gradual one- ... moreso it may be possible to eliminate it with framing. There may be slight blemishes we missed. The back side of the map has a text listing of stations and their frequencies. Etc. Most interesting on this map is the daytime flag symbols on the front. Thick paper. 1991 cromalin proof - space - weather satellite - map - storm shown - climate
This item is a rare chromalin proof done by Walsall Security Printers for one of the values from Tonga 1991 Telecommunications set. Chromalin proofs were done by Walsall Security Printers on thick card and in full colour. A proofing method used by Walsall Security Printers in which full color proofs are produced directly from the color separations prior to final production of the printing plates. Each color is layered on top of the next thus building up to the full color design. It is at this stage that any final color change and occasionally design adjustment is made. As only 4 or 5 were done. Chromalin proofs are scarce due to the very small number done. They are lovely looking, very high quality, with a glazed finish and were done by Walsall Security Printers as an important part of the printing process. These were not“printed” for collectors ... moreas many proofs are, and come from the printers archival material. They are the equivalent of but better looking than many other country's die proofs. This darling owl uses a map and pointer to expound on his national weather forecast. But owls have been screeching out their forecasts for centuries. According to folklore. Screeching generally warns of an approaching storm or cold weather. However, an owl who screeches during a storm is announcing that better weather is on the way. The figurine measures about 2-1/2 inch high. 3 inches long and 1-1/2 inch wide. The mark is difficult to see but appears to be"E-9245 © Enesco. My research indicates that next to the"©" should be"1977" but its invisible on this piece. It is also marked"40" in marker or grease pen so maybe that was the price in 1977.
