For auction is a Denoyer Geppert wall map of the United States and Possessions. Political with Names Denoyer Geppert Series. It has a copyright date of 1919 and Fifth Edition 1923. It was drawn by Baxter Blair. The staples has worn the top some and there is some damage to the bottom as shown in the pictures. It is canvas backed and still shows nicely with vibrant colors. Printed on card-stock paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. Interesting and scarce cartographic curiosity. Actually printed in relief itself! The back of the card gives the details of ordering maps, which are available, etc. Not only are the mountains printed in relief, so is the text within the border around the card. Larger than a postcard. In VG or better condition. Some light age wear, side margins slightly uneven but the image remains clean, attractive and very presentable[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges ... moreand in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 6" W x 4 5/8" H. Denoyer-Geppert Pull Down School Map all canvas with original mounts and brackets in great shape for being 62 years old. Pulley dose work and holds. Map is super RARE! I have not seen any others like this in this size. It was my mom's she taught 5th grade for the last 40 years in a school that is over 100 years old. This was in her attic for 30-35 years? she has several that she has collected over the years and has asked me to sell. This is probably one of her best maps. A recent appraisal of this same map a little smaller in no where near as nice of shape was priced at 500$ by what it's worth in the Huffington Post. The map is in excellent con dition showing the"Potential Natural Vegetation of the United States" at a very detailed 1:3.168,000 scale. The map co mes as shown. No tears. This is a vintage Denoyer-Geppert Simplified Series classroom pull down map of"The United States- Physical-Political" from 1942. I think. I know the map was made sometime between 1935 and 1949 as that is the only time that Charles C. Colby worked at the University of Chicago. The map measures 63" wide by 52" tall and comes with the metal bracket auto-retract hanger. There are 2 large repaired tears down the right hand side that were repaired by the school some years ago. These have been stored for many years by my parents and we found them while trying to help clean out the closets after my father's death so my mother could move to a smaller home. Rare vintage Denoyer-Geppert Pull Down School Map all canvas from the 1952 with original mounts and brackets. Pulley does work and holds. Titled"A Pictorial Map Depicting the Literary Development of the United States. this map charts of the hometowns of various authors(such as William Faulkner and Margaret Mitchell) and the settings of classic tales, like Monterey, California, from John Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat. RARE Dated 1928 Denoyer-Geppert School Classroom Map CIVIL WAR A16 A17 Oak& Linen. Made by Denoyer-Geppert Co. of Chicago. Compiled and Drawn by R Baxter Blair. It is actually 2 maps in 1 roll down linen backed roll- Numbers A16& A17. Hart American Historical Series with A16 showing Civil War locations and A17 depicting 4 parts Abolition, Reconstruction, Cotton Production and Per Capita Wealth. The map section measures 43-1/2" wide and 63" long; the actual full piece would be slightly larger when fully opened. This is a genuine 1928 school map- NOT a reproduction or later issue. The linen shows slight edge wear but no tears or holes, the colors are fine and vivid. The only issue is the map ends has half pulled off the oak rollers at both ends but just needs to be re-stapled in place, quite minor. The Denoyer-Geppert Company ... morewas founded in 1916 by L. Philip Denoyer and Otto E. Geppert. Denoyer was born in Milwaukee. Wisconsin, and spent much of his early life as a teacher, principal, and professor of geography. Geppert was a salesman who had been working for W& AK Johnston, mapmakers out of Chicago. In 1913. Geppert found Denoyer teaching in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and convinced him to leave and become an adviser for A. J. Nystrom& Co. in Chicago. Both working for Chicago mapmakers in 1916, Denoyer and Geppert decided to form their own mapmaking business under their own names, with Denoyer as President and Geppert as Sales Manager and Secretary/Treasurer. In its early years. The firm promoted itself as a manufacture and supplier of"visual demonstration equipment for geography, history and the biological sciences, including globes and maps. Denoyer-Geppert sold imported British globes under its own name, and also developed its own line of American manufactured globes, including the"Cartocraft" globe with simplified map gores. By 1937. Selling a vintage one sided map from circa 1950s. Hawaii and Alaska are not on map. The map only measures about 61 inches wide by 38 inches tall. Border and wood dowels will increase the dimensions. It could really use a good cleaning front and back from old chalk. There are also old marks probably from a marker. The roller works as it should. Fabulous pull down school map from Denoyer Geppert. Dating to the 1950s 60s. This is a canvas/cloth slated map, one sided featuring US, that measures about 64"x 46" WITHOUT the hem. It includes mounting bracket(no screws) and wood pole and operates easily and without issue. I found one tear at the bottom close to the pole, well clear of the map itself, faint chalk markings and light paint spatter close to the pole like someone painted the room with a roller when the map was rolled up and just the thin strip exposed. Structurally this map is excellent, very smooth and crisp. Colors are brighter than photos show, there are no smells at all, just a great map. Even with the issues mentioned, you will not be disappointed with the condition of this old map. The spot to the left in the photo is a figment of my camera's imagination ... moreand does not exist on the map! This map. Along with more than 75 other school maps and charts that I will be listing, belonged to the estate of a longtime teacher who lovingly stored these works of art when they became obsolete or were replaced for more modern versions, and eventually the technology that we use in schools today. This is one of the finest, most eclectic collections I have found in all my years of hunting map collections. In fact, I have not had a large quantity of school maps in my possession in about 6 years, so if you see one you like, don't wait. I have not been through every single map yet but so far I have found no doubles. I have many very unique maps that I have not seen before so please check back as I get them listed. This is a quite large one measuring approximately 61 1/2 wide by 61 on just the colored map part. Comes with the steel track hanger and brackets as you can see in the one picture. The lower left corner of the pull down part is the only flawed part of it. As you can see by the picture it is not much. Thanks for checking this one out and.
