Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. 1903 Scroll map of United States and Territories! Beautiful Antique! Rare Item!
This map was printed in 1903 and issued by the government. It outlines canals. Waterways, indian reservations, conservation areas, government regulated sections of land, the states and territories. It also includes a lot of information pertaining to those regions of land, such as; for the states, when they were bought or acquired into the union etc. This is a great historical piece! The dimensions are 6 ft wide and 7 ft tall when opened. It is printed on what feels like canvass/cloth so it is extremely durable. It is rolled onto a thick wooden dowel with a design on either end. I believe the map was made for the tray because the border of the US fits perfectly inside the tray. Cloth stitched. A few things I picked out: New York area: Apple Louisiana area: African American cotton picker Mississippi area: steamboat Guy in the middle with a sign that says"claim" on it. This map is 7 ft. wide and 5 ft. long when rolled out. It is tattered across the top. But still has the original wood with it. It is from 1921 and says on the bottom right that it is of the United States Including Territories and Insular Possessions Showing The Extent Of Public Surveys. It says also that it was compiled under the direction of I.P. Berthrong Chief Of Drafting Division in 1921. Also has the name John Barton Payne on it listing him as the Secretary Of The General Land Office. The size I have listed is the rough measurements when it is rolled up. That is everything I know about it at this time.

Framed antique Pocket Map of 48 United States Wagner & Debes "OK Territories" AZ
Up for auction is a vintage antique Wagner& Debes map of the 48 states ca"Oklahoma Territories" era but with AZ intact(which puts it 1907- 1912) with some of Mexico& Canada as well. This was recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is a great framed example of the early pocket maps. You can see the discoloration on the middle right of its original size that it was stored in, and it must have been used to some degree showing the use in the fold at the opposite end. It appears it suffered so much wear that some of it was cut off on the top and bottom left, but cut off so long ago that the cut lines are discolored. There are tears to the map and losses around the edges and great wear to the folds, but that does give it its charm. We feel they did a very nice job with the framing and picked the perfect ... moreframe as the black lip accents the type and details of the map and the brown accents the subtle colors of the map. We just would put a tan mat behind it so that there is less contrast, will pop the colors if the map is closer to a dark tan or dark brown. But to each their own! A great early map worthy of any office or any hallway or any library or any spot that one sees fit. The map measures 12 x 20" in a custom frame with glass 16 x 23" overall which could benefit from glass cleaner and dusting of the frame. Best of luck in bidding.
