Vintage Pulldown School Map wall USA 1968 Detailed Retro pull down colors NR
I just acquired this map of the US and its a really good find. Its big about 7' wide and 5 1/2' long. Lots of color detailed showing the Legends for Land sea and population(see Pictures) The map is in good to very good condition and will transform any room you hang it. Please keep in mind its almost a half century old and is not new. One customer asked me if a map had been in a smoke free home! Its a School Map how the heck do I know. All I could say is its been in dry storage for 30 years. Some of the maps have been repaired over the years and may have tape. How to Repair Old School maps The round dowel is cut in half by the manufacturer and the new map is simply glued or stapled to one halve and then screwed to the other. Its basically sandwiched between the two halves. They made them this way so the schools could do there on repairs. ... moreThey printed the maps on canvas with several inches below and above the map.This was done so the school could do the repair work. Most schools could not afford to buy another one or send it to the manufacturer for a tear to be fixed when it would tear they unscrewed it. Cut the section that had the tear and put it back together. Please keep this in mind the older maps that have been rolled up and stored. They need to hang for several days lay flat. Should your map not straighten out simply remove the screws reset the map.Trim it if necessary and screw it back At some point you may tear it and need to repair it. Now you know how.

Vintage Classroom Wall Map. A J NYSYROM. The earths moon Roll up type
I have a nice vintage classroom wall map of A pictorial map of The Earths Moon. It was made by A J Nystrom company in the mid sixties. Not totally sure of the date. But most maps I have ate from that era It is made from a paper/fiber material that is a heavy paper so it is wipeable. It measures approximately 46" long X 64" wide. It has a heavy plastic layer that can be raised. It is the type that hung on the wall on the runner and rolled down. I rolled it down just enough to inspect it. It rolled back fine but I will still handle with TLC. The colors are vibrant and no visible tears are present. They were stored in an old warehouse for about 40 years.I quite a few if these maps which I will start posting in the next couple of days so keep checking. This great vintage map by A. J. Nystrom has beautiful colors- you can see the layered spot colors in the print. It's a U.S.A. map. 1950 edition, No. WF1, edited by V. C. Finch, Professor of Geography, University of Wisconsin. Notice the absence of both Alaska and Hawaii, which became states in 1959. The map itself is 59 1/2" tall by 63 1/2" wide. The wood bar at the bottom is 67 5/8" and the top is about 68" across. This is a used Nystrom United States Map. It is a Wall Mount School Type Pull Down Roll-up Map. This is a 1997 Edition of Model 1NP1 by Nystrom. The frame measures 68 inches in length. The map measures 65” x 70” The map is in good condition. It rolls down and locks in different positions. The surface is markable with water soluble markers. The lower right corner of the map has some wrinkles. There are no tear in the map. The outer protective green wrap has some scuffs and small tears. This World Map was made by Modern Educational Systems. Model no. 30-21. It was made in 1988, just before the Berlin Wall came down, and you can see that East and West Germany are still divided on the map of Europe. The pull bar is 65" and some tape repairs have been made along the back of it. The map itself is 61 1/4" L x 46 1/2" T. The map is made to mount on a map rack but it can be hung on a wall using two 3/4" holes spaced 36" apart in the metal support. Someone had made tape repairs to the back of the map with a strong tape of some sort- it's silver tape, but looks different than duct tape. The repairs seems secure. This is: a vintage wall map. The kind ubiquitous during the 60s and 70s in almost every school. It fastens to the wall, pulls down like a window blind, stops and stays during the lesson, and another pull releases it to go back up into the case. I took pix of this outside mostly as the color is more true(and I am tired of being inside) and it is pretty large. Has metal pull bar at the bottom and pull ring. Made of some sort of heavy flexible paper mostly, some sort of vinyl material at bottom, base and top of heavy metal. Last pix shows the maker, Rand McNally, copyright 1966, other number, 14-5010 1R69, may indicate was made in 1969. Not sure. This is of North America, of course includes USA, but also Canada, bit of Soviet Union and all of Greenland at top, and Central America, the top of South America at the bottom, edge of Europe to the ... moreright. Condition and size: Good condition overall. Maybe has some fading of color, and a little bend in metal of bottom pull. Edges of map are surprisingly good. Measures about 50" across, metal bar at base and case/ mounting structure at top about 1 1/2" more per side, or 3" overall making total width 53" Map is about 5' tall, plus about 5" of green material at bottom and 1" for the metal bar at the bottom, for a total of 5 1/2" foot plus a bit for hanger bit. Cut the section that had the tear and put it back together. Please keep this in mind the older maps that have been rolled up and stored. They need to hang for several days lay flat. Should your map not straighten out simply remove the screws reset the map.Trim it if necessary and screw it back At some point you may tear it and need to repair it. Now you know how.

This is an original AMS map printed in 1949 using a 1948 AGS map(printed on bottom of map) The map contains explanatory notes on the bottom left corner. This map is referred to as Sheet#11 of series 1106. The map is in good condition with the exception of a few wrinkled edges. The colors and print are clear& vibrant. Framed Leather Wall Map of The United States
Vintage wall map of the United States made from leather. is 21 1/2 inches by 14 1/2 inches. 23 by 16 with the frame. Is made from one solid piece of leather that has been tooled and glued on the wood frame. Is in very good shape, but does have some scratches in the leather that have discolored. The oceans, rivers, lakes and Mexico are painted white. Does not include Alaska or Hawaii, not sure if that means it was made before they were states or they just didn't have room for them. Looks home/ hand made, I'm not sure if this was a school or Boy Scout project. If you have any questions just ask.

This is a beautiful mint condition wall map of the United States. It was printed by OTTENHEIMER publishers of Baltimore. Maryland in 1966. The Cartographer was Channing Rwen Kao PhD. It was distributed by N. Miness and Company of Hicksville. New York. This map was certainly made for use in school or at home by a student. It is a Conic projection map. The map measures 37 inches across by 25 inches tall when open. This map is in its original packaging. The packaging is fantastic as you can see in my photo. And has the mid-century graphic design that you would expect. The distributor was in Hicksville, New York, so it is not lost on me that the color of the packaging is the orange& blue of the New York Worlds Fair. I slit open the top of the package to be able to take the map out and photograph it.
