Antique map of The United States Showing The Natural Divisions Of The North American Forests Exclusive Of Mexico- Prepared under ... morethe direction of C.S. Sargent, Special Agent. Published in 1883. The map measures approximately 19" x 28" Including the border area. Map is in color and is blank on the reverse side. This map is from the"Department Of The Interior. Census Office" It was published in 1883 and included 16 maps with accompanying Report On Forest Trees of North America, by Prof. C. S. Sargent. Maps this early and showing this much forestry detail are very scarce. The map has fantastic coloring to it. The various shades of green represent the areas containing the different tree species. The map is generally in Fair- condition. There is wear and browning. Particuarly on the left hand side. There are some creases and tears around the edges of the paper and there are some heavier rips along the bottom border of the map- some heavier staining along the border- the left hand side is heavily stained and the bottom edge is heavily stained and torn. There are some"water stains" along the right edge. There is one tear on the bottom left hand corner. Near the Legend, that does extend into the map. There are creases/folds in the corners, along the border, and there are other dings here and there, as well. This map is a great piece of US history! It will look very nice when framed. Please note that while I have included a picture of the front board of the Atlas this map was taken from. It is NOT included in the sale, as it is a reference piece to determine authenticity for the other maps. I would be happy to include a copy if requested. This is a large map. Part of the U.S. Capitol land is on the bottom right of the map. This area has changed a bit, as Louisiana Avenue now runs from Pennsylvania Avenue halfway between 2nd and 1st Streets and runs across North Capital Street at Indiana Avenue. Parts of Area 633 on this map are part of that road and the bottom portion is now the Robert E. Taft Memorial and Carillon. Part of Indiana Avenue now runs underground into the 3rd Street Tunnel at C Street It runs under the U.S. Employment and Training Administration Building, which now takes up all of Areas 573 and 574. The Passenger Station for the B&O Railroad is now apart of Union Station and this area now houses the Japanese American Memorial. This map measures approximately 28 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches. This is a large 1903 Topographical map of the United States. It measures 14 1/2 X 22 inches. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have a few handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Please enlarge upper scan for condition of map. Map was taken from the Cram's Modern Atlas which is near impossible to obtain and very expensive when found. We take special care in shipping these maps as there are no replacements. Size/ Format In millimetres(and inches) Sheet: 364 x 262(14¼" X 10 ¼" Margins range from 14mm- 26mm(½" 1" The maps are all printed on one integral sheet with a fold in the center. This fold becomes nearly invisible when the map is laid flat. If the map is framed. The fold becomes completely invisible unless inspected very closely. Condition The maps are in very good condition. The colors are bright and there is almost no age-toning. There is an occasional spot or unobtrusive mark in the ... moremargins of a few of the maps. The scanned images are un-edited(except for size) and are of the actual map you will receive. I've noticed that some of the scans look a little blurry or grainy. This is caused by clumsy scanner settings. The maps are very clear with crisp text.
