This auction is for an original. Antique lithograph plate which has been rescued from a disbound copy of'Meyers Konversations-Lexikon. Date Published: Printed in 1885 by Bibliographisches Institut. Leipzig, Germany Print size: 11 3/4 inches by 9 1/2 inches The lithograph has a characteristic patina which is natural for vintage paper. But is in good condition considering it is nearly 130 years old. The plate was folded inside the book and has the original centrefold, although this central line is more visible on the scanned image than the actual print up for auction. Although a general impression of the print can be seen from the image, it doesn't really capture the true detail and color quality of the original. The originator of the print up for auction was Joseph Meyer(May 1796- June 1856) who published the respected German encyclopedia. ... moreMeyers Konversations-Lexikon. Meyer was born in Gotha, Germany and was educated in Frankfurt. He operated very successfully as a publisher, and founded the publishing house, Bibliographisches Institut in Gotha in 1826. This is a very nice 1885 map of Asia. It measures 21 1/2 X 13 1/2 inches. Map is from a 1885 edition of a Cram's Atlas. See scans below. This map is in very good overall condition. But small handling flaws are to be expected on maps this large and old. This map has two very old tape as shown, won't show if matted, or trimmed. Please see upper scan for condition. All maps are shipped rolled carefully in kraft paper and inserted in a triple wall PVC tube so the post office cannot crush them. We take special care of these maps as we have no duplicates. Actual size of map is 17" X 22" with viewable portion being 13 1/2" X 17 1/2" The scale is 1/125000 which is approximately 1 mile per half-inch. Fits between the St. Joseph and Dearborn quadrangles(east) the Oskaloosa quadrangle(south) and the Hiawatha quadrangle(west) which I also have listed.
