The maps had metal ... morepins at each end. One end goes into holes drilled in the end of this frame. The other end goes in slots in a metal holder that is in the other end. The inside dimensions of this unit is approx 42" by 14 1/2." Thus the length of the maps including the pins that stick out each end is slighly longer than 42" so it would hold in the drilled holes. It is dusty, but looks solid. It has a chip at a corner (see photo). Otherwise looks good. I will disassemble it for shipping. USA lower 48 buyer to pay $30 s/h.

ANTIQUE/VINTAGE 1945 USA PULL DOWN MAP 51X55" RARE COLORFUL EXQUISITE HISTORIC
This big pull down map was made in 1945 by Cram Maps. Overall dimensions are 55" high x 51" wide. Size of actual map is 41" high x 49" wide. This map has exceptionally vivid colors and will show well on a home. Office or business wall. It is on canvas and has a wear proof finish and is in very good overall condition. There is wear to the edges as shown and there is a vertical tear that extends from the top left edge downward into the state of Washington as shown. Tear has been crudely repaired but could easily be restored. This is an historic map as it was produced at the very tail end of the World War II. It has extensive notations as to US possessions and such. The wooden, spring loaded roll still functions. There is a brass ID tag at the bottom. This map is virtually impossible to find and is a fine investment and beautiful ... moremap that would enhance just about any room or business. The one of the world shows the political boundaries of each country and the United States map shows the states and their capitals. It's in very good used condition. The backside of the map does have some marks but they are not readily visible when the map is installed as they are on the back and top of the roll. There are a couple of small(1/2” or so) marks on the front of the map which might be possible to remove buy the winning bidder. The third and final thing is there is a small quarter size tear in the bottom of the lower map near the wood. It is an easy repair with strong clear tape on each side of the map. Please keep in mind its almost a half century old and is not new. One customer asked me if a map had been in a smoke free home! Its a School Map how the heck do I know. All I could say is its been in dry storage for 30 years. Some of the maps have been repaired over the years and may have tape. How to Repair Old School maps The round dowel is cut in half by the manufacturer and the new map is simply glued or stapled to one halve and then screwed to the other. Its basically sandwiched between the two halves. They made them this way so the schools could do there on repairs. ... moreThey printed the maps on canvas with several inches below and above the map.This was done so the school could do the repair work. Most schools could not afford to buy another one or send it to the manufacturer for a tear to be fixed when it would tear they unscrewed it. Cut the section that had the tear and put it back together. Please keep this in mind the older maps that have been rolled up and stored. They need to hang for several days lay flat. Should your map not straighten out simply remove the screws reset the map.Trim it if necessary and screw it back At some point you may tear it and need to repair it. Now you know how.

Antique Pull Down School Map of Africa, George F Cram Co, Excello series, OLD
This is an old pull down school map on linen. It is a map of the Africa. Dimensions are 43.5" wide x 56" long. There is no date to be found. Just that it is the Excello Series, and The George F Cram Company, Inc; Indianapolis 7, Indiana. It has French West Africa which ended in 1960. The condition of this map is not great as it has staining from previous moisture damage. There is staining present on the back side of the linen some is mildew stained. The front of the map has some age stains also. I personally think it has a lot of character and think it has great decorating potential. It rolls up and down well. It has been stored indoors in a dry environment for 30+ years so any stains that came from moisture happened well before that. This map is old and I wish I could get info on the exact date. This great vintage map by A. J. Nystrom has beautiful colors- you can see the layered spot colors in the print. It's a U.S.A. map. 1950 edition, No. WF1, edited by V. C. Finch, Professor of Geography, University of Wisconsin. Notice the absence of both Alaska and Hawaii, which became states in 1959. The map itself is 59 1/2" tall by 63 1/2" wide. The wood bar at the bottom is 67 5/8" and the top is about 68" across. This is a used Nystrom United States Map. It is a Wall Mount School Type Pull Down Roll-up Map. This is a 1997 Edition of Model 1NP1 by Nystrom. The frame measures 68 inches in length. The map measures 65” x 70” The map is in good condition. It rolls down and locks in different positions. The surface is markable with water soluble markers. The lower right corner of the map has some wrinkles. There are no tear in the map. The outer protective green wrap has some scuffs and small tears. It was made in 1988, just before the Berlin Wall came down, and you can see that East and West Germany are still divided on the map of Europe. The pull bar is 65" and some tape repairs have been made along the back of it. The map itself is 61 1/4" L x 46 1/2" T. The map is made to mount on a map rack but it can be hung on a wall using two 3/4" holes spaced 36" apart in the metal support. 1966 copyright School Wall Map NORTH AMERICA, pull down, works
This is: a vintage wall map. The kind ubiquitous during the 60s and 70s in almost every school. It fastens to the wall, pulls down like a window blind, stops and stays during the lesson, and another pull releases it to go back up into the case. I took pix of this outside mostly as the color is more true(and I am tired of being inside) and it is pretty large. Has metal pull bar at the bottom and pull ring. Made of some sort of heavy flexible paper mostly, some sort of vinyl material at bottom, base and top of heavy metal. Last pix shows the maker, Rand McNally, copyright 1966, other number, 14-5010 1R69, may indicate was made in 1969. Not sure. This is of North America, of course includes USA, but also Canada, bit of Soviet Union and all of Greenland at top, and Central America, the top of South America at the bottom, edge of Europe to the ... moreright. Condition and size: Good condition overall. Maybe has some fading of color, and a little bend in metal of bottom pull. Edges of map are surprisingly good. Measures about 50" across, metal bar at base and case/ mounting structure at top about 1 1/2" more per side, or 3" overall making total width 53" Map is about 5' tall, plus about 5" of green material at bottom and 1" for the metal bar at the bottom, for a total of 5 1/2" foot plus a bit for hanger bit. Fabulous pull down school map from Denoyer Geppert. Dating to the 1950s 60s. This is a canvas/cloth slated map, one sided featuring US, that measures about 64"x 46" WITHOUT the hem. It includes mounting bracket(no screws) and wood pole and operates easily and without issue. I found one tear at the bottom close to the pole, well clear of the map itself, faint chalk markings and light paint spatter close to the pole like someone painted the room with a roller when the map was rolled up and just the thin strip exposed. Structurally this map is excellent, very smooth and crisp. Colors are brighter than photos show, there are no smells at all, just a great map. Even with the issues mentioned, you will not be disappointed with the condition of this old map. Absolutely incredible pull down school map from George F. Cram of Chicago. Dating to the 1960s. This is a canvas/cloth map that measures about 51"x 78" WITHOUT the hem. It includes mounting bracket(no screws) and wood pole and operates easily and without issue. There are 2 different maps featured; United States in 1790 and about 1802& Thirteen Colonies 1760-1775. I found no holes, tears, markings, water damage or significant creases. There is light storage soil/darkening on the bottom 6" of the map, and some tape residue on the hem.
