They were given to institutions and libraries. The maps and locations of Union and Confederate positions were created by the men and officers that were part of the various battles of the Civil War. This map is Plate VI of Volume I. It includes the defenses of Washington D.C. and battle fields in Kentucky. These maps show the topography and the positions of the Confederate and Union Armies during these engagements. Please review the photos for the details of this Plate. This map measures 18 inches by 29 inches. It has no holes or creases. It does have two tears in the bottom margin about 1 inch and shows some foxing around the edges. The tears would be covered by matting when framed. It is a great piece of history and would look great framed in your den. Office, or family room. Here is a very colorful. And I think, one of the better pictorial or illustrated maps concerning the Centennial of the Civil War that proliferated in the 1961-1965 period- actually. This map is also one of the first maps published for the Civil War Centennial, dated 1956. This map is called" A Picture Map of The Civil War" It was published by Grosset& Dunlap. New York. And as it says in the lower right border, in conjunction with'The Civil War' by Otto Eisenschimi. Ralph Newman, and E. B. Long" Apparently an epic book of that time. The illustrator is not indicated, but he or she was a good one; the little vignettes remind me of the work of Norm Saunders who drew the illustrations for the Topps Bubble Gum Cards famous"Civil War News" set. The map is well marked and illustrated, but not cluttered with geographical items or place names irrelevant to the intent of the map, whose purpose is to show major campaigns of and persons connected to the Civil War. The map is dominated by eight 4" x 4 1/2" vignettes or story-illustrations along the right and left borders of the map. I show the entire map with plenty of overlap in the 12 photos posted. The map is 23" x 30" It is in very good to excellent shape(please read the Description Section where I go into detail about its condition) The map is folded. As originally, into 8 equal sections. It is printed on heavy stock paper, heavier than resume paper and it has yellowed only slightly. Two of the sections. On the back side, are a little dirty because they have been exposed when the map is folded. The legend of the map provides a narrative of 76 important Civil War events. RARE Dated 1928 Denoyer-Geppert School Classroom Map CIVIL WAR A16 A17 Oak& Linen. Made by Denoyer-Geppert Co. of Chicago. Compiled and Drawn by R Baxter Blair. It is actually 2 maps in 1 roll down linen backed roll- Numbers A16& A17. Hart American Historical Series with A16 showing Civil War locations and A17 depicting 4 parts Abolition, Reconstruction, Cotton Production and Per Capita Wealth. The map section measures 43-1/2" wide and 63" long; the actual full piece would be slightly larger when fully opened. This is a genuine 1928 school map- NOT a reproduction or later issue. The linen shows slight edge wear but no tears or holes, the colors are fine and vivid. The only issue is the map ends has half pulled off the oak rollers at both ends but just needs to be re-stapled in place, quite minor. The Denoyer-Geppert Company ... morewas founded in 1916 by L. Philip Denoyer and Otto E. Geppert. Denoyer was born in Milwaukee. Wisconsin, and spent much of his early life as a teacher, principal, and professor of geography. Geppert was a salesman who had been working for W& AK Johnston, mapmakers out of Chicago. In 1913. Geppert found Denoyer teaching in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and convinced him to leave and become an adviser for A. J. Nystrom& Co. in Chicago. Both working for Chicago mapmakers in 1916, Denoyer and Geppert decided to form their own mapmaking business under their own names, with Denoyer as President and Geppert as Sales Manager and Secretary/Treasurer. In its early years. The firm promoted itself as a manufacture and supplier of"visual demonstration equipment for geography, history and the biological sciences, including globes and maps. Denoyer-Geppert sold imported British globes under its own name, and also developed its own line of American manufactured globes, including the"Cartocraft" globe with simplified map gores. By 1937. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. This one is from the COPYRIGHT MODERN SCHOOL SUPPLY COMPANY and measures 43 1/2" x 31" It also states on the bottom of the map that OLIN D. MORRISON and ERWIN RAISZ worked on this map. I am dating the map in the 1920's based on the information that ERWIN RAISZ worked for this map company in the 1920's while in college up until 1929 when he graduated. This is a DOUBLE SIDED MAP. One side has The US at time of the CIVIL WAR 1861. and the other side has USA WAR OF 1812 and EASTERN US IN 1825. Overall good condition with some damage on one corner and a tear at center top. Large(32"x44" historical school-room map of"the War for Southern Independence" a/k/a the Civil War) With an inset showing Louisiana during the war. Printed in 1946 by Denoyer-Geppert(Chicago) plate L6 from the"Louisiana Social Studies Maps" series. Shows major campaigns with commanding officers' names, and shows areas of Union occupation, year-by-year. This map did its educational tour of duty at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Overall it is in very good shape- a bit of curling and warping and a few very minor discolorations, but no fading, holes, or marks.

VTG Cram's Cloth Pull Down School Map The Civil War 1861-1865 & US in 1861
Absolutely incredible pull down school map from George F. Cram of Chicago. Dating to the 1960s. This is a canvas/cloth map that measures about 51"x 78" WITHOUT the hem. It includes mounting bracket(no screws) and wood pole and operates easily and without issue. There are 2 different maps featured; The Civil War 1861-1865 and The US in 1861. I found no holes, tears, markings, water damage or significant creases. There is light storage soil/darkening on the bottom 6" of the map, and slight scuffs and one tear in the hem. Map is very crisp, colors are bright and vibrant, there are no smells at all, no yellowing, just a very very clean map. You will not be disappointed with the condition of this old map. This map. Along with more than 75 other school maps and charts that I will be listing, belonged to the estate of a longtime teacher ... morewho lovingly stored these works of art when they became obsolete or were replaced for more modern versions, and eventually the technology that we use in schools today.
