DETAIL: A very ornate silver/bronze alloy ring of late Renaissance origin. Probably seventeenth or eighteenth century, provenance is Southern Russia, the Crimean Region. The Crimean, now part of present-day Ukraine, was home of the Tartars(and before them ancient Greek settlements during the first millennium B.C. across the Black Sea from what was at the time this ring was produced, the Ottoman Empire, modern day Turkey. The ring once bore a very elaborate pattern on the sides of the band probably almost all the way around to the back. A similarly elaborate pattern embellished the circumferential ledge/skirt of the bezel, as well as an intricate perimeter of finely serrated“teeth” surrounding and securing the gemstone. However a substantial portion of this ornate metal work no longer remains discernible. As there is heavy wear to the sides and back of the band as well as to the bezel skirt. Traces of the original ornate metalwork remain discernible where the bands meet the bezel. Great patina and wear from obvious field use as an authentic display of tribal wealth and prestige. Raw Baltic Amber, Neolithic Beads,Vision Quest. Inspired by Bees. This Necklace Has a central chunk of sea washed Whitby jet collected from the coasts of the famous Whitby area of Yorkshire. The Raw Baltic amber is collected from the beaches of Kaliningrad in the Russian Federation. The Neolithic beads are from the South Western Sahara. Two of these beads were once painted but this has worn away under the dunes. The small disk beads have been hand chiselled from quartz in. ancient neolithic or palaeolithic times. Evidence of ancient civilizations(4.000 BC and older) have been found under the desert sand. these white quartz beads would have been very beautiful when new, ... moresparkling in the sun. The sheer amount of effort that must have been used to make them is incredible! When I first bought some of these beads I was sat on my balcony with'my' bees wondering how to get the waxed cord I was using though the smaller holes. My bee visitors bombus hypnorum were a total delight to me. They were nesting in the eaves and I would dash out at dawn each morning to be there to greet the sunrise with them. I loved them and they loved me. I thought Ah yes. Wax! The next thing I knew a vision came into my mind's eye. it was of lush green pastures, rivers and streams and abundant game. it was the Sahara before desertification, when the ice ages gripped the North and South of our planet, and our hunter gatherer ancestors lived in this beautiful region. Anyway. mustn't ramble on:0) I have used modern heavy gauge bronze tone chain to attach the beads. There is no catch. It just goes on over the head.Length is 36 in(91.5 cm) not including the jet, which is roughly 40 mm by 30 mm by 20 mm in size. It brings to my mind the great Migration Ages of our past. Antique African Wild Bird Holder
This is an extremely rare and unusual antique wild bird holder that would have been worn on a strap or belt around the waist. It comes from west Africa and dates from the early 20th century. The condition is very good with just a part of the leather fastening strap missing. It measures 21 cm long. 12 wide and 12 cm high. The construction is very intricate with a continuous coil of reeds held with wire wound in a spiral to form the body of the holder. The lid and bas are tropical wood with air holes. This is more of the 100 plus year old collection of ethnic items brought back to Minnesota by Scandinavian missionaries. We will try to get additional pieces up over the next week. The items in the collection were from New Guinea. Madagascar and Asia. We do not know the origin of this lot, or if every item is from the same region. The leather covered quiver is in excellent condition and decorated with painting and incising. Plus a large fringe section at the bottom. There are a total of 11 arrows. RARE Vintage Goat Skin Cheese Holder Bedouin Tribal
I have for auction a RARE hand tanned hand made Bedouin goat skin container. These were used by the desert tribes for storage of cheese. Laban, curds etc. It is made from the skin of a small goat and has been nicely decorated at the closures. Has never been used and resembles soft suede leather. Very unusual and rare item, no contamination or unpleasant odours; acquired in the 1970's. My preferred method of payment for domestic buyers is via direct deposit; I also accept Paypal. Made and purchased in Kalimantan(Bunyu Island) but are non-functional for anything except decoration.I do not know the age, whether or not they are truly antique. The shafts of the arrows are bamboo and the tips and ornamental decoratively carved dark wood. Of a variety of shapes. The tips are sharpened to a point and are fastened to the bamboo shafts with ornamental binding of some sort of fiber wrapping. The set also includes two(2) primitive wooden bows. One 61 ½ inches long and one 54 inches. These are crude. Wooden bows, probably non-functional- have never tried to stretch one and would not advise trying. ... moreThe limbs of the bow are some sort of dark wood; I do not know the type. The string is a reed or thin fiber of unknown type that are crudely tied to the tips of the bows. I have never tried to use the bows or the arrows for anything except decoration. I purchased these items while I was stationed in Indonesia– they are authentic. The arrows and the bows are being sold as a set– 16 arrows and 2 bows. Polish Virgin Mary Shield Plaque: Patriotic Gorget/Ryngraf - ORIGINAL
From my collection of antiques. Here is an original Polish gorget(Ryngraf” in Polish) a kind of plaque or medallion for hanging on the wall(or elsewhere) It is pretty heavy and rather big(approximately 15 cm by 17 cm) and from what I can tell it was made in Poland before World War II. It portrays the Polish Virgin Mary of Częstochowa below the Polish eagle with banners on both sides. The inscription says“POD TWOJA OBRONA UCIEKAMY SIE” the Polish for“Under Your protection, We take refuge. These are the first words from the oldest hymn to the Virgin Mary(Greek: Ὑπὸ τὴν σὴν εὐσπλαγχνίαν; Latin: Sub tuum praesidium) I have no idea which exact metal this is made of, but, as I said, it’s relatively heavy and feels quite substantial. 100% original and would look great in any collection or as an ornament. Fine pair of antique Moro Barong swords. From the Moro tribes of the Philippines Dating from 1880- 1920. This is a lovely pair of authentic swords still razor sharp, and both exhibiting wonderful'damascus' type patterns in the steel of the imposing and well forged blades, which show a uniform thickness along the spine of about 0.5cm. The larger of the two, with a 17 inch blade and 22 inch total length, shows quality carving to the cockatoo type pommel, and the scabbard mouth. They are both still solid and the blades show no movement or looseness. The scabbard on the smaller barong is fragile and cracked. The pictures speak for themselves. An investment piece. Antique Animal-horn Ceremonial Spoon
This is an antique. Hand carved decorative spoon made from solid animal horn. I purchased it in the mid 1980s at an estate sale. The couple who acquired it traveled a lot and this was one of their acquisitions. The spoon is almost exactly 7" long and is in excellent condition. There are no defects, as horn is a very sturdy material. This spoon fits in the hand very nicely and has a pleasing shape and feel to the cup end when eating with it. There is a story I was given regarding this item- I'm not sure how accurate it is though. You can see that there is a little man seated at the handle end. He is wearing a loin cloth and has long, straight hair, indicating an Asian origin. Also notice the set of horns inside the ring part. The story goes that the little man was a nature spirit who rode on top of the buffalo that pulled the plow ... moreused in cultivating the fields. The nature spirit brought fertility to the land, but on one condition. That was that during special occasions he would be able to taste the human's delicious food when this special spoon was used. I was warned that it is not advisable to let the little nature spirit have too much otherwise he might get lazy!

The bodkin is not quite 2-1/4" long, the unknown item which I believe is a needle is 3" long, the carved lace making tool is 4" long, the other two are 4-3/4" long, the knitting needle is 9-3/4" long and on one end the very tip is missing.
