Very light porosity(surface pitting caused by contact with earth while buried) Professionally conserved. DETAIL: This is a very handsome. Decorative piece of ancient Roman silver ornamentation. It was probably an ornamental appliqué for a belt or strap, though it could have also been an appliqué for a piece of furniture, wooden chest, or table implement. It’s hard to be certain, but it does appear as if it might have been originally fastened onto a leather strap or belt. In any event the appliqué was discarded or lost almost two thousand years ago. It shows minimal wear, and minimal porosity(surface pitting caused by burial in caustic or acidic soil conditions) Notwithstanding this evidence of usage in the ancient world. It is in wonderful condition, the engraving very sharp, and the artifact is quite handsome. It is the type of decorative ornamentation one would have expected to find on a belt or strap employed by a Roman Soldier. Many pieces of equipment and weaponry were carried on the person of a Roman Legionnaire, many held in place with belts(and buckles) and such ornamental appliqués were quite popular. There is a split half way down the body length which is where the join was made so it will need re-stitched to repair it and there is also a small area a few inches further up where it will need a few beads replaced. WW1 Turkish Ottoman Prisoner Of War Beaded Snake 25ins Long
Made by a Turkish prisoner of World War One. A realistic looking beaded snake measuring approx 25ins in length and approx 3/8ins across. There is a small piece of the end of the tail missing, otherwise in good condition. The head is colourful with white, green and red colours. The body has diamond patterning of white beads on a rich red background. It is unusual with decorative loops of beads in two places on the body and on the head.

This is a lovely. Unique, well-preserved oblong belt buckles with arch-shaped ends. Bronze, enamel, multicoloured glazed clay. Cast imitation of champleve. They are from XVIII-XIXth century. It is 26 cm long and 6 cm wide. They are Vratsa region, Bulgaria. The cotton belt is decorated with metal and woolen threads embroidery. It is colored by the red paint at places and there are also some stains and moth holes. It is 65 cm long and 6 cm wide.

The type of silver metallic thread used for this dresser scarf is no longer in use. The central motif is a flower surrounded by graceful leaf designs. The two side borders feature butterflies with flowers. Vines, and leaves. Both edges are scalloped with silver thread. The dresser scarf is handmade so the scalloping is uneven. The embroidery is in excellent condition with one small dark spot and a little yellowing on one edge near the mat. The color is ice-blue with metallic silver thread. The Turkish framer double matted the exquisite needlework with a mat that is a darker shade of blue; then accented it with a mat of a lighter shade of blue. The silver frame is very handsome.
