RARE & GENUINE 1940s PAPUA/NEW GUINEA BAMBOO COMB
My late Dad fought in New Guinea during WWII. He ended his service there as a member of the Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit liaising with the natives and coast watchers. He brought a few mementos back of his stay there. This bamboo comb is one of them. It is in excellent condition and measures 34.5 cms long. There is a very faint diamond pattern cut into the handle and the teeth are wired. It is not ornate but is a simple example of what it was used for. I'd like you to have a closer look at my items. The pot itself is approx 4" high and with the lid it reaches 6" It is approximately 3.5" across. It is not symmetrical and the base is not totally smooth as they would be rested on sticks within the fire rather than stand it on a base. There is no damage to it. PNG Carved wooden dish. Very simple. Basic design. Photo 1 is the bowl side of the dish. Photos 7 and 8 are the bottom side of the dish. Photo 5 is the bowl side of the fish tail of the dish. Photo 6 is the underside of the fish tail. The resin used to repair it can be seen in this image and it doesn't show from the other side. Approximately 36" long and 9" round at widest point. Antique Ancester or'gope' board from Papua New Guinea. Is measures 43 inches by 8 inches. In over all good condition, painted with red, black and white pigments, depicting an ancesters face. Exact date not known, when I purchased this item I was told this item had been in a private collection/ museum- there is writing on the back that has been crossed out and the glue where a label was attached at some time. Great interior design display item as well as a worthwhile addition to a collection of tribal art.
