As found in a local estate and believed to be an ancient piece from Western Mexico, approximately ... moretwo thousand years old. The dog is fat- or pregnant- with a hollow body in aggressive stance with tail that forms a spout. The dog's eyes and mouth are incised into the clay. Dog effigies such as this were buried in tombs in the belief that dogs were an important guide into the afterlife of the deceased. Both of the dog's ears are chipped; one with minor loss. The other more significantly. Two legs have been re-glued; the repairs are rough and amateur, and the break lines appear to have had some loss and are not well-aligned. The burnished reddish brown exterior is mottled and veined. And the interior is encrusted with mineral sediment. The dog came to me without information on its history or provenance. But shows many indications of its age. It's a fascinating piece that is sure to complement any collection. Two legs repaired somewhat roughly. One ear is broken. The other is chipped. Antique Japanese Samurai Quiver With 2 Arrows Signed Late 1800's
This is an antique Japanese Samurai quiver with two arrows. The quiver is a finely woven basket with designs incorporated into the weaving. The bottom end of the quiver is wood. Some to the attachment straps have got missing. the body of the quiver is sound. The arrows are bamboo. They have hand wrought metal tips in the shape of bullets. In between the feathers, there is Japanese writing, could be owners name or something else. The quiver is 35 1/4" long and 2 1/2" at the widest, the arrows are 31 1/2" long. Condition, as stated, a couple of the carrying straps have gone missing, basket is sound. The arrows have a few shrinkage cracks in the bamboo. The feathers are still there, but with issues. Fine pair of antique Moro Barong swords. From the Moro tribes of the Philippines Dating from 1880- 1920. This is a lovely pair of authentic swords still razor sharp, and both exhibiting wonderful'damascus' type patterns in the steel of the imposing and well forged blades, which show a uniform thickness along the spine of about 0.5cm. The larger of the two, with a 17 inch blade and 22 inch total length, shows quality carving to the cockatoo type pommel, and the scabbard mouth. They are both still solid and the blades show no movement or looseness. The scabbard on the smaller barong is fragile and cracked. The pictures speak for themselves. An investment piece. Superb Pair of Antique Hand Carved Pipes. Excellent& highly interesting hand carved pair of pipes, with superb carved wood warrior head pipe bowls with incised scarified facial decoration below highly intricate pierced& carved cow bone figural shafts with a continual band of human figures around a long. Straight metal tubular mouthpiece. Please see pics. The carved head bowls are outstanding. With an excellent proud expression& wonderful finish. Please see pics. Both pipes are carved with great skill, with the pierced figural mount expertly carved with individual figures, that appear to be holding their genitals or similar pose, with a fine pigmented patina throughout mounted upon the dark carved wood head pipe bowls below each with metal foil lined rim interiors. Straight, narrow metal pipe tubes have rolled ends, these may be the actual mouthpieces or perhaps there was an attachment, but this is exactly as we acquired them, they are fully functional& completely original throughout. Please see pics. Each bowl has a small hole to the bottom that would be covered by the thumb& when the thumb is released. It would give a"rush" of smoke into the mouth. please see pics. I believe that these pipes are very high status items. They look like West African works of art.
