The handle part is carved bone with applied cabochon turquoise stones. The end piece is carved horn which also once probably had some applied stones, these are now missing. As mentioned above there is some of the applied stone decoration missing. Hand-carved from a large piece of wood, then painted or stained with 3 different tones of tan, ranging from the light tan which covers most of the mask, to the dark tans used on the tortoises/turtles, which have been handcarved, so they standout in relief, and have then been painted almost black, with dark tan added to sections of their shells. This a long narrow mask, which measure 47 cms(18.5" high, and has a elongated oval shape. The eyes have been hollowed, and are slit-like. There is a long narrow nose, which flares out at the bottom, and narrow hollowed mouth, with large flat lips. I'm not certain of where this is from. This Is Another Very Unique and Unusual Item From My Personal Collection It's a Very Tiny Hand Made Bow and Arrow Set believed to be of American Indian origin. It's framed in a wooden box that measures 3" x 6" x 7/8" thick. I'm not sure of the origin. But it took a lot of meticulous work to make this piece. Antique traditional hungarian scratched horn salt-cellar from 1890
Original traditional hungarian salt-cellar in very good condition. The body made from bull-horn. There's a very detailed scratched work on it filled by dark wax. The year of birth(1890) and the name of the maker(Jano) are also scratched on the body. The bottom and the top was made from wood and there's a simple carving on the top. Sheperds made these works in the 19th Century while they was taking care for their animals. Very rare piece only for ethnographic collectors. Aproximately 5000 years old. Beautiful Ancient Indus Valley Terracotta Mother Goddess. 17.5 cm or 6 7/8" ht, 6 cm wide and 3 cm deep, with excellent facial features,almond eyes,head,neck,ears,stomach and wrists adorned with jewellery, a flat back. The whole idol has a beautiful patina flaking off in places,may have originally been painted with a cream slip. The only fault being the fractured neck being reattached with very minor loss of material which in no way detracts from its beauty, this example is exceptional in every respect and this type being one of the rarest of the Indus Valley Goddess's.
