The 17.20(43.25cm) blade is the fine type: thick with a good cutting edge and spear point. The back edge of the blade is 0.32(8.2mm) at the grip and 0.21(5.4mm) near the tip. The wooden hilt has fine, tightly wound silver wire. It has an open faced scabbard with decorative bands to hold the sword in place. The scabbard is missing one silver disk at the bottom. There are slight losses of wood on the grip near the guard on both sides. One side of blade has some light, stabilized pitting towards edge.

This is a lovely pair of authentic swords still razor sharp, and both exhibiting wonderful'damascus' type patterns in the steel of the imposing and well forged blades, which show a uniform thickness along the spine of about 0.5cm. The larger of the two, with a 17 inch blade and 22 inch total length, shows quality carving to the cockatoo type pommel, and the scabbard mouth. VERY RARE OLD ANTIQUE TAIWANESE PAIWAN ASIAN TRIBAL SWORD
Being offered is a very rare sword that originates from the Paiwanese culture located on the island of Taiwan. This sword would date to the late 19th to early 20th century. Measured in its scabbard in a straight line this sword is 23 1/2" long. The handle is very nice. You have two large head carved to each side of the handle and then around the pommel you have 6 more head carved! The bottom of the handle with a zig zag pattern and then a metal ferrule. The scabbard is wood with an open face side and a resting block. The resting block have 4 heads carved into it. The scabbard then has two figures carved into it and then end of the scabbard ends in a snake head. The blade has a lovely deep brown patina. Although I have no details concerning its manufacture, it is clearly very old- the scabbard is made of wood and leather and looks particularly anchient. You are buying an antique Philippine sword and scabbard. It measures approximately 40" long sheathed by 2& 1/4" diameter. The blade measures approximately 21" long by 1&3/8" wide with semi sharp blade and has maker or tribe markings at hilt and blade spine neat tip. The scabbard is ornately hand carved with foliage and floral designs on sides and scales on edges. The handle has unique geometric patterns. The cross guard and throat ring are brass. It has been painted with a gloss black enamel that is fade from age and has some scuff marks and white paint transference in spots. The pommel has a small hole at center and probably has a brass decoration piece attached to it originally. Judging from the design and ornate carving and blade edge. I would guestimate it is from the early 1900's era and was likely a dress ... moresword. I could not find one like it online or sold on eBay so I am not sure of its origins, blade looks like northern Talibon Philippines style. I am not sure of its value either. Quite a rarity to see so much ornamentation, brass inserts discs are along all four faces of the blade to various degrees. The spine is beautifully profiled. There is geometric engraved pattern running along top edges of blade throughout. All brass inserts are in place; none amiss. There are some past areas of corrosion that have been left, most notably 1st third of back of blade which show some pitting please refer to images. Otherwise pitting is minimal. There are signs of use to the edge two very tiny nicks and the tip could be resharpened, very ship shape and surprisingly sharp though. There is a very slight curve leaning of the blade to the right(see images) The scabbard has a few scuffs to the beautiful carving and 3 pieces of woven binding ... moreties are missing. The braided copper which is still present has corroded and broken to the back. These could be restored without much difficulty. I've left the blade as is. It could be polished if desired there is also a build up old oil around decorated areas that could be cleaned.
