The caddy has a domed hinged lid with top and four sides illustrated by lithographs of Russian peasant life, possibly by Motorin, pan-slavic style of decorated border. Being made at the time of WWI, there is an interesting panel of male Army recruits going out to war. The tin is signed by the maker in three places, both in French and Russian. On the bottom there a commercial logo by the Vysotskiy Tea Company in Moscow with a very interesting Art Nouveau style border. RUSSIAN HAND-PAINTED LACQUER LID Collectable for display. Or use for crafts/upcycle etc This is a beautifully painted lacquer piece, which I believe is the lid from a circular box or jar. I have seen this sort of work and I believe it to be Russian, but I have no idea of the age of it. It could be old, but I really don’t know. It is in good condition and also appears to be signed, but I can’t make out what it is. The circular piece is black with a scene hand-painted on it, depicting a sled or carriage drawn by 3 horses– I can’t really tell if it’s flying through the sky, water or just a part scene, so wonder if it might be a mythological or folk story. The horses are being driven by a man wearing a coat, gloves and a hat and there is a hooded woman sitting down in the carriage. This is very finely painted. The reverse is thickly painted with ... morecinnabar coloured lacquer, all in good order. This is about 58mm diameter and about 12mm deep. I think I was given this, probably for me to make into a brooch or a pendant. A JACOUTA& CO ODESSA tin lithograph tea box caddy container. Beautiful example of a Russian lithograph tea tin. This Imperial Russian tea tin is an Art Nouveau gem. It likely dates to the late 1800s. And it has some wear and patina to show for it. The tin has a domed hinged lid with top and four sides illustrated by lithographs of Russian peasant life. There is an interesting panel of male Army recruits going out to war.The color scheme is muted blues and greens, and the scenes on the base are pastoral and country. Approximate size of tin is about 3” by 2.25” by about 2.25” tall. There is some wear, rust, and marks, both inside and outside the tin. Also some dents on the lid. This container is very nice and shows great color and design. Overall wonderful condition for its age of over 100 years.
