This piece is from Korea and is about 20 or so years old. The exterior design was handcrafted by a Korean artisan who cut each piece of mother of pearl and abalone shell to create the likeness of a peacock surrounded by a blooming bouquet of flowers and butterflies. Please note that the color of the mother of pearl changes depending on the light source- when under natural light. It has a silvery iridescent glow and under interior lighting(incandescent bulb) it has an amber glow. The entire piece is made out of wood painted with a black lacquer finish. The interior is wood also(unpainted) I believe pine, but I'm not exactly sure(it's definitely NOT particle board, though) and it features 2 separate sections(left& right) each with different smaller compartments inside, the details of which are described below. There are 2 sliding doors to access the right and left side and it does have a lock, but I no longer have the key. The size of the entire armoire is 7ft(L) x 6.25ft(H) x 2.25ft(D) approx. It disassembles into 6 major pieces(if I'm not mistaken) top section. 2 sliding doors, bottom section, left section and right section. The top section holds the entire piece together. Beautiful and one of a kind; massive yet not too large or bulky. Antique SOLID brazilian rosewood( dalbegia nigra) armoire. A type of furniture only ever found in Brazil, were this superb wood abounded in the past. Besides, it was made by none other than LEANDRO MARTINS, Rio de Janeiro, one of the foremost brazilian cabinet makers of late 19th, early 20th century. A rare, unique and exquisite piece, not to be missed, specially considering how dear and scarce this wood has become. The large side panels, made from single large, wide and thick boards, could well be used for the purpose of fine lutherie/ guitar building. The same applies to the four large and thick front drawers, and the front door panels. In fact, even the structure of this piece was made with plenty of rosewood, wide and thick frames, all very heavy and well selected. ANTIQUE FRENCH MARRIAGE ARMOIRE
This auction is for a most unusual antique armoire from Normandy. Most probably from the Caux region. The carving on this piece indicates that it was made in the provinces by a local woodworker. Everything about this stunning piece shows that it was entirely hand done and not for the mass market. It was most probably made between 1750 and 1850. All the joinery is double doved or butterfly. It is made of solid wood except for the interior of the dome top and the back. It was made. As was typical of the day, as a knockdown. The doors, base, back and dome top are all separate pieces. The separate dove carving indicates that this was a marriage armoire given as a dowry piece. Most were expertly done but this has all the earmarks of one made perhaps by the father of the bride. Made in his own wood workshop. A recent addition to the piece is the ... moreadditional cut in the doors doors which allow them to completely foldaway so that the piece can be used as an entertainment unit without the encumbrance of traditional doors which can only partially be.opened. This was done professionally and is imperceptible when the doors are closed. The original white painted finish must have been touched up at some time but it still retains its original patina. Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. The armoire is in good condition. The two side mirrors have some noticable silver loss. Example pictured. There are also some small dents and dings to the wood. This is a very nice 3 door wardrobe circa 1900. Made in France or Possibly Italy as a lot of there furniture were very similar. The condition is very good. Its pollard oak and walnut with satinwood marquetry inlay to each door to the side, as well as rosewood inlay. At some time to the back has had wood worm. It looks treated, but we have also treated it as well. lt comes in several part so its easy to transport. To the base it has brass feet and also to the top brass cups. The center has a drawer to the base. The the rest is all hanging space as well as the sides. The mirror is the original one which shows some specks with age. Measurements are 76 wide.83 high, 24 deep. We have the 3 keys for each door.

The measuring tape on the pictures is for size references Continental 18th Century Pine schrank with domed top. For more than 250 years this item was used for different purposes and during this period was fixed and altered several times in order to please it’s owners. Originally the schrank was painted a green color with Northern Star ... moredecorations on the panels but we received it already stripped and only a few specks of green paint left in the cracks would remind you of it. One panel has a contour of the Northern Star. Developed as the result of a chemical reaction of paint on freshly cut wood. Even though the original painting was lost through the centuries along with the name of the artist who decorated this item the shadow of this Star remains. A little miracle… The pine turned darker with time and was sealed and polished with bee wax for soft luster. Revealing some time marks including some amount of bug holes appropriate for the age of this item. However. We guarantee that now it is problem free because we fumigate all our furniture twice- before we put it into the container and upon delivery to US. The other panels just reveal clear pine wood of rich honey color with darker veins. Most of the people are looking for this type of item to use it as an entertainment center and once it probably served this purpose because a round hole is drilled in the back panel for electrical wires. From the"Hale Estate. Marietta, Ohio. The armoire was built into the home on the banks of the Ohio& Muskingum Rivers, in the 1830s. The Hale home was on the Marietta Historical Registry as a way-station for the"Underground Railway, shelter for escaped slaves en-route to Canada, prior to and during the Civil War) Shortly after World War II, about 1947 the city condemned the home to make room for a major highway. Armoires were often built into homes as a small clothes closet. When the home was being torn down, the Hale family removed the 84x42x17 closet and took it to Newport, Ohio, 35 miles north for Grandma Hale's use in her small bed-room in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catey, and family. In 1980. Phyllis Huston, a foster child of the Catey's, was visiting the old home and made an inquiry about the"closet, as ... moreit no longer was in the home. The current renters told her they had put it in the back storage building and would be disposing of it. Phyllis(Lil" and her husband, Bob, took the armoire to their home in California, and restored it to it's original status.
