This is a walnut victorian armoire signed by Joseph B. Hubbard New Orleans. The armoire is circa 1880. The armoire is in as found condition. The finish is good and I would not refinish it. It has been stored for 20+ years. All I did was oil it. The armoire breaks down for easy moving. This armoire has no screws holding it together. It is held together with slotted panels and crown wedges. The only screws are the two that hold the top pediment on. It is all original except for the door locks and the one small interior shelf. The lock has been replaced with a key and the small shelf is not original. The armoire is an impressive size. It measures 97 3/4" tall with the pediment attached. 90 1/2" tall without the pediment, 65 1/4" wide and 23" deep at the crown, and 57" wide and 23" deep at the base. The base has ... more2 drawers. G orgeous antique Victorian Birdseye Maple and Maple Large Wardrobe Armoire Closet circa 1880-1890. I believe this was imported from Europe-most likely France or Italy. As this style dome in Birdseye Maple came almost exclusively from there during this period. I am only selling this as it is too large for my small Victorian home. And I have too much floor settling in my home to fully accommodate its functionality, unfortunately. This gorgeous armoire has beveled original glass mirrored double doors that lock with the original key. Everything is original-nothing is reproduction or replacement. A very rare find and nearly impossible to find this exceptional quality and condition in Birdseye Maple! This piece is very large and will need a large room with tall ceilings in order to accommodate! Assembled with meticulous pegged construction. Beautiful ... morebirdseye textures and floral carvings; inside are 3 adjustable shelves with many variations available with the built in bracket racks. Outer measurements 91 1/2" total height. 53" wide, and 19 1/2" deep. It weighs approx 220 lbs. Inside measurements are 76" high. 49" wide, and 14" deep. A very solid and sturdy piece- very little wear to the finish for its age and being birdseye maple! There are a few minor chips and imperfections typical of vintage and antique items that have been acquired over years of time and love- which only adds to the charm and character. It is this historicity that makes them more desired and sought after. The beveled glass mirrors are in great shape for their age with very little of the silver backing showing. It has the original finish and hardware. There is a small hanging area inside the armoire making it nice for a guest bedroom or a bed and breakfast. The armoire is in good condition. It has a lovely aged patina. The armoire has been in the same home for 25 years and prior it came from the original owner.
