Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. The armoire is in good condition. The two side mirrors have some noticable silver loss. Example pictured. There are also some small dents and dings to the wood. The wardrobe is formed with a central door with full-length bevel edged dressing mirror in it. Either side of the mirrored door there is a section of carving and incised decoration. The carving is various swirls and there is incised lines down to the base. Opening the wardrobe it is fitted with cloths hooks and rails. The sides of the wardrobe are panelled. The base of the wardrobe is footed with one full-length storage drawer and the it is raised on bracket feet. The wardrobe has its original fittings. Handles lock etc(no key) The wardrobe dates to around 1880-1890. There is a small top ... moresection that lifts on and off, it also lifts off the base for ease of moving. There is a short split on the front near the back of the door and the cornice is different than normal may be a very good replacement. And came in on the last container. ... moreThe most unusual part of this wardrobe is not that it has three beveled glass doors, or that it has three carved dovetail drawers, or its carved pillars, or its crown molded top, or even the oval carved figure of a mandolin with wreaths. No, what’s really unusual is the big set of doors with an oval painting on top that was done by hand. You can see the brush marks in the painting in the depiction of a farmer and his wife- or maybe it’s his girlfriend. The top of her blouse appears to be pulled down, and he’s lying on the grass next to her watching the flock of sheep. I can’t see a signature, but it is definitely and obviously hand-painted. The center door is very wide, at 30 inches, and the side doors are 13 inches wide. The beveled glass in the center door is 24.5 inches wide, and the beveled glass in the side doors is 9 inches wide. It comes with a key, and when the center door is opened, it reveals a storage compartment that is 31 inches wide, 20 inches deep, and because of the canopy top, the overall height of the center section is 74 inches tall, offering lots of space. Antique 1890- 1900 oak wardrobe. With two doors and two drawers. in good as found condition, at no reserve. There are two imperfections on middle and bottom left door that look like they were knots in the wood. Left door very slightly warped- door does close, right side has seven wood pegs added plus two wood pegs broken off, brass lock cover is loose- I do have the original brass lock cover, nice original finish. The wardrobe is all oak wood. Has two doors, two dovetailed drawers, all brass hardware present, comes with key and working lock, and very sturdy. Currently having several shelf papered covered shelves someone added to increase storage space, a new owner could have additional or shelves more appropriate to the age of the piece made if desired or it could simply be used for that always needed extra space to hang multiple jackets and store books, gloves, scarves and sporting equipment within a stylish yet functional old Victorian wardrobe, most recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh, Scotland. This terrific four door closet stands 86 1/2 inches tall and measures 67 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches deep. Front to back. You will see a few age marks here and there, and a few flecks of veneer off along the bottom of the door. In the last picture you will see the door is open to the piece and the left hand side is seperated, this is because a tightening bolt is missing. These pieces break down in several pieces and have to be attached, the bolt that attaches the left side to the crown, or topper, is missing, I will get a new one and have it in there before it is delivered to a customer. Very good quality sturdy wardrobe with a hanging pole and a shelf across the top. Produced at the Liverpool Factory by Waring& Gillow Ltd. The walnut doors are quite simply stunning. There is a faded bit of about a square foot at the bottom half of the left door. It doesn't show very well in pictures. But I'm happy to supply more images.
