An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. Exceptional French Empire Gilt& Patinated Bronze Mounted Mahogany Armoire Probably c. 1880-1910 Item# 130408PXG26 This rare and exciting work of art from the last quarter of the 19th Century is exceptional in every way. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either ... moreside are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. This is a superb solid mahogany linen press made in England circa 1860. Its in very good condition the polish is all original and a very nice patina. It has been converted into an entertainment center at the top. But we still have all the original slides. It sits on splayed feet to the front its flamed mahogany and still has the original brass handles. There is no back in there because if its going to be used as an entertainment center there has to be ventilation. Measurements are 50 wide. You can fit a 46 inch wide tv in there,88 tall,21 deep. The top comes of the base so it is easy to transport.

Its styling detals indicate that it originated in the Netherlands or possibly Belgium. The exposed woodwork is a mix of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. It has a recent professionally done restoration and it is in excellent antique/restored condition. All parts are straight and solid and fit together as they should. The doors open and close smoothly. This is an absolutely fabulous antique one piece Victorian four door mahogany closet or wardrobe. With original cloak hooks and campaign drawers and carved decorative finial. Currently having several shelf papered covered shelves someone added to increase storage space, a new owner could have additional or shelves more appropriate to the age of the piece made if desired or it could simply be used for that always needed extra space to hang multiple jackets and store books, gloves, scarves and sporting equipment within a stylish yet functional old Victorian wardrobe, most recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh, Scotland. This terrific four door closet stands 86 1/2 inches tall and measures 67 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches deep. Front to back. There are a total of three brass cloak hooks around the wall in each end closet as well a three ... moreprong hook in the center plus four along the wall and two more 3 prong hook's in the large center closet, with hooks for a total of 22 coats, jackets or scarves. Here for auction we have a beautiful Victorian mahogany wardrobe dating to the second half of the 19th century. This good example of the classic Victorian wardrobe has a moulded cornice over a single large mirrored door flanked by arched panelled sides enclosing hooks and full length hanging space on a deep base drawer raised atop a plinth base. The drawer is mahogany lined with its original handles and easy to use. To the inside the original hooks are in place but a rail could be easily added and modern hangers can be accommodated. The wardrobe is in good order with the only worthy note being a small amount of `spots` to the original mirror but nothing to worry about and to expected. Beautiful Mahogany Wardrobe circa 1910 Width = 65" including upper cornice = 75" Total Height 83 1/2" Depth = 21 1/2" including upper cornice = 24 1/2" Triple fronted with a central compactum behind a mirrored door. There are 4 pull out shelf drawers and two cabin drawers below with pull handles. Brass fittings adorn every part. Hooks. Drawer pulls, rails and handles. The ornate front handles twist to pull back the catch and open doors. The hanging rails pull forward on their mechanism to allow full view of hanging garments and stowed back into the cupboard. Ingenious and well made. Pretty inlaid details and quarter laid mahogany grain. This has been finely done. The colouring is very rich without being too dark and it is not an overbearing piece. There is also cornice to the top and scalloping between the'feet' ... moreThe wardrobe dis- assembles into 5 parts meaning it can be brought up narrow staircases/ through awkward doorways. It was originally designed to adorn a wonderful old manor or stately farmhouse and may have had to come through several rooms to be placed. It also means that the wardrobe is easy to transport and manageable to carry. The wardrobe is in good antique condition. There are minor knocks/scratches to the woodwork. As you would expect for an original item of this age. I have noticed the following. There is a fine crack in the wood panel behind the mirror. It is secure for use. But needs mention. There is a small piece of trim missing on the very bottom of the 1" width between mid-section and right section. Also a small corner on the top of same section. The brass on the rail is loose at left side. There are two small spots of white paint on the far left side panel. All of the above mentioned are minor. Overall an amazing piece.
