An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. Antique Primitive Asian Armoire or Cabinet
Shabby chic modern/vintage armoire or cabinet. We purchased this armoire and two other similar pieces(see separate auctions) when we lived in the San Francisco Bay area. The doors are vintage and from India. The rest of the cabinet is of modern construction. The finish is primarily distressed wood with green paint. The vintage panel doors have simple latches to hold them closed. The doors have iron grille work and iron pulls. This armoir measures 84 inches tall x 43 1/2 inches wide x 17 inches deep on the exterior. It has 2 shelves that are roughly equally spaced plus the base for displaying your curiosities. wickedcrazymom Store Antique mid 1800's Wardrobe~Chifferobe~Armoire. It is a beautifully constructed and very sturdy piece. This came from an old farmhouse in Alabama. I refinished the piece about 30 years ago. Since it is pine. I decided to try to stay in the same color family that would have been common when the piece was built. I used as an entertainment center and. Years ago, I modified the piece to allow for the back of a pre-flat screen TV to stick out the back of the piece. I know, I should have waited for flat screens to come out. Anyway, I built a shelving unit which can be removed~it simply sits inside the wardrobe. At the top of the inside of the unit, I attached some pine shelving via some angled metal brackets, which can also be easily removed. The boards that would have originally been on the top were missing when I found ... morethe piece. I used some old reclaimed wood to replace them. This is a great piece- look at the detail in some of the pictures. The builder used wooden pegs and square nails to attach the wooden pieces. The trees that were used to build this piece must have been large in diameter, the door panels are 14" wide, and the back of the piece has boards that are 11-14" in width. This piece has great presence in a room, and makes either a nice entertainment center, or could be modified to be used once again as a wardrobe. It is very big and heavy. So local pickup only. I am selling this beautiful armoire. Which I believe to be of French origin, sometime in the 19th century. This piece is made of solid cherry wood. And has some scratches/dings and discoloration(mostly visible in pictures provided) This armoire breaks down into 7 pieces- the bonnet. Bottom, sides, back, and two doors are all separate and come apart for easier transportation. My understanding is that this piece was meant to be a traveling wardrobe for families when they travelled. I believe the glass is original. And it is the old fashioned bevelled style. It once had reflective backing to make the windows into mirrors, however, this backing is no longer with the piece. The rough dimensions of the piece are: 60" wide. 92" tall, and 21" deep. Selling a gorgeous French mirrored armoire that was purchased some years ago at an Antique shop in San Francisco. The piece is signed on the back: Picard Paris. Faubourg St. Antoine" I'm not an expert on wood. But I can say it is solid hardwood and my guess is it's cherry or perhaps walnut. Doesn't look like oak grain to me. But again, I'm not an expert! The armoire has two doors with beveled mirrors on each. Beautiful carving along the top and bottom. Inside there are three shelves, two small drawers at about middle height, and a single larger drawer near the bottom. There is also a single long drawer at the bottom, outside of the armoire doors. A very large French Empire wardrobe or armoire circa 1850-1870. Past down by decent in the same French Canadian family and then through marriage to Norwegian American relatives in the 1920's. Made from beautifully grained mahogany veneer over pine secondary wood and always kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 87 inches high. 24 inches deep, and 61 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition. Only minor veneer chips as expected from age and use. I will give it a dusting and a coat of paste wax and it will be ready to enjoy for another 100 years. It is easily disassembled for transport thanks to the original wood keys which attach the sides to the base and the tapered wedges which lock the top to the sides. Beveled mirrors, which are flanked by 2 beautiful matched, inlaid, burled walnut, curved door, with original brass ormulu details. Presenting a beautifully-proportioned and generous armoire in very sturdy condition. For your consideration. My 30 year ownership of this rugged, useful and attractive armoire must regrettably come to an end as I am downsizing and it simply does not transition into the tight living space I now occupy. Our loss will be your gain. She stands 75 1/4" tall, 59 1/2" wide(add a total of 3" for the pediment projection) and 16" deep. The finish is a medium brown, very shaded, matte, some distress. Goes well in either a modern or traditional setting. It comes with a working key. The left door latches with small barrel bolts. Top and bottom inside. The bail on the right hand door is intact; the one on the left is a stub. The intact one can be copied by wax casting, or fabrication, if desired. You just might overlook this flaw or ... moreforget about it, as we did. Fitted with removable shelves but the interior is adaptable for hooks or a hanger bar. We have used it for bedding. This is a beautiful antique Irish linen cabinet thoughtfully reconfigured for modern use as office or media armoire. With its doors closed it is stunning- the centerpiece of any room. The details: Biparting doors mounted on continuous hinges allow the doors of the middle and upper compartments to fold back and slide into the armoire. A very fine antique. Circa 1900- 1940, French Louis XV style display armoire. It can be broken down for shipment: cornice, complete framed paneled back, both sides, two doors, and footed base with drawers. The case is of solid mahogany; the back boards, four shelves, the side interiors, of quartersawn oak. The bottom drawer has an oak interior also. The case surface is stripped mahogany veneers, and ormolu brass applied scroll with seashells mornaments. The doors have a simple wavy brass grill. There is an oak panel that needs to be inserted back into the framing of the back- can be done from above when armoire is reassembled, see photo.
