The sheer perfection found in the tight minimalistic landscape of this undistracted and restrained surface is unrivaled. Everything about the form is harmonious, the crown being distinctly angular and sharp, deep enough to cast a formidable shadow over the case while still remaining a small part of the form as a whole. The large case is cleanly divided into six parts by a craftsman clearly averse to using graduation in any portion of the piece. Using deeply chamfered panels set into rabbets in the through-tenon-mortise joined door frames, these opening easily over replaced brass hinges. Inside is a spacious shelved interior, again spaced at equal ... moreintervals with a large space for the bottommost shelf, avoiding the use of graduation. The effect is attractive, resulting in a stoic aesthetic so commonly associated with works of those states. On both left side doors. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. Genuine French country antique. Wonderful rich patina with a clear wax finish. I purchased this cabinet in France many years ago and I have been using it for storage in an unfitted kitchen. I was told it was an old food cabinet. Reluctantly for sale due to kitchen remodel and shortage of space! The doors. Sides and front are all solid oak. There are splits on the left side of the cabinet. As seen in the pictures, due to contraction and expansion over the years with humidity changes. There are other hairline cracks as one would expect in a piece this size and age but it just adds to the rustic charm. Please look at the pictures carefully. The interior is lighter in color and has 3 adjustable newer pine shelves that sit in the wood grooves with metal braces. The bottom of the cabinet looks newer than the main body. The back of the cabinet frame is oak with old pine panels. Each door has a decorative metal vent. I do not know what type of metal it is but it has a dark patina. Much like the style of Eastlake, purchased through the estate auction of an old Charleston family member, so I'm not sure if it is American made or perhaps English. It is certainly late 19th century to early 20th century solid oak(primary and secondary) with lovely carvings and dentition across the top, a large clear beveled dressing mirror, dovetailed drawers, original old hardware and an incredible amount of storage space within a solid wood cabinet that's made to travel in separate smaller components(base, closet, bonnet) so it could be easily maneuvered through the traditionally smaller hallways and stairwells of those now antique homes. This wonderful large functional wardrobe stands 87 inches tall by 53 inches wide by 21 inches front to back. Offering ... morean amazing amount of storage in a gorgeous quartersawn oak cabinet. Handsome circa 1880s walnut Victorian Armoire/Wardrobe. Beautiful figural walnut veneer on the double doors and drawers. Great for extra storage/closet space. Flared Molded Cornice. Paneled sides. Shelves inside. Old locks with skeleton key although they are not very secure. Height to top = 89" 7’ 5” Width at base = 55” Width at widest at top of crown molding = 61" Depth at base = 19.5” Depth at deepest at top of crown molding = 23" The armoire does dis-assemble into several pieces for easier moving…can even be transported in a normal size SUV! The doors are vintage and from India. The rest of the cabinet is of modern construction. The finish is primarily distressed wood with green paint. The vintage panel doors have simple latches to hold them closed. The doors have iron grille work and iron pulls. This is a beautiful antique Irish linen cabinet thoughtfully reconfigured for modern use as office or media armoire. With its doors closed it is stunning- the centerpiece of any room. Inside is generous amounts of space- enough to hold an office's worth of electronics. Files, and supplies. The details: Biparting doors mounted on continuous hinges allow the doors of the middle and upper compartments to fold back and slide into the armoire. There are four holes in the upper part and two holes in the lower part of the armoire to allow electronics wiring to pass through to the back to be plugged into outlets. These openings are each about 1 inch in diameter. The uppermost area has notches for shelving(see photo) and there are two sturdy removable shelves. Antique Triple Bombe Armoire Wardrobe Cabinet with Center Beveled Mirror Here is a very impressive triple armoire c. 1890- 1915 with double"bombe" shape.on the top and bottom halves. The sides also have the"double- bombe" shape as well as front. Book-matched burled elmwood/ walnut veneer with scroll inlay design adorns all three front sections. Bonnet on armoire is of a serpentine design with carved scroll work. The 2 side doors open to reveal 2 adjustable interior blonde wood veneer shelves which can be removed. Center door opens to area where a wooden rod would have been suspended.rod missing but could easily be replaced. Armoire has 3 bronze rococo handles with key holes and 6 bronze hinges. Lock on left door has a separate key as its lock has been replaced at some point. The other 2 locks work with another key which ... moreis also available. Lots of storage possibilities. Armoire sections sit on raised splayed legs.total of 8 legs. The bottom apron below the doors also has a serpentine carved design. Center beveled mirror is in very good antique condition. Exterior color is closer to that as shown in photos 2. 3 and 4 when more light was available. Please look at all photos; note there is a slight separation in the wood/ veneer on lower bottom of center door which is evident but not unexpected in pieces this old; it could be dealt with by a furniture restorer or leave it as is let the natural aging be evident. Armoire"knocks down" into 2 side sections plus bonnet and several smaller pieces once top bonnet is removed so it can be more easily moved and maneuvered through doors and hallways. I have even had this armoire taken up winding stairs. Approximate overall size when assembled is 94 in. tall x 75 in. wide x 26.5 in. deep. This handsome piece is constructed of Chestnut and features 3 slatted heart pine shelves on the interior. The side panels and doors are of paneled construction and the crown boasts a large shell in the center of a spindled galley flanked on the corners with large finials. Note the hand carved floral rosettes and scrollwork above the doors. There is a single drawer along the bottom below the doors and there are two bun feet in the front. The exterior of the cabinet exhibits a custom hand painted and distressed finish in a tan/ greige or dark putty color- Chateau Gray" The interior of the armoire retains ... morethe wood tone finish with a wash of transparent dark driftwood gray wood stain. The interior metal hardware is intact on the door and drawer as shown. The lock is in working condition and we also have the key. Crafted from fruitwood and mahogany, it features extensive and massive bronze mounts throughout by the French bronzier Emile Kahn, a leading bronzier working in France in the last quarter of the nineteenth century. The cabinet rests upon four enormous animal claw and ball feet. Each side and the center compartments are crafted from satinwood and mahogany and have adjustable notched shelving with two shelves each. Overall condition is good. There is some crackling to the parquetry noticeable on the sides, and scrapes, scratches and small chips here and there, noticeable near the base and on the curved parquetry panels on each side.
