This piece is from Korea and is about 20 or so years old. The exterior design was handcrafted by a Korean artisan who cut each piece of mother of pearl and abalone shell to create the likeness of a peacock surrounded by a blooming bouquet of flowers and butterflies. Please note that the color of the mother of pearl changes depending on the light source- when under natural light. It has a silvery iridescent glow and under interior lighting(incandescent bulb) it has an amber glow. The entire piece is made out of wood painted with a black lacquer finish. The interior is wood also(unpainted) I believe pine, but I'm not exactly sure(it's definitely NOT particle board, though) and it features 2 separate sections(left& right) each with different smaller compartments inside, the details of which are described below. There are 2 sliding doors to access the right and left side and it does have a lock, but I no longer have the key. The size of the entire armoire is 7ft(L) x 6.25ft(H) x 2.25ft(D) approx. It disassembles into 6 major pieces(if I'm not mistaken) top section. 2 sliding doors, bottom section, left section and right section. The top section holds the entire piece together. Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. This most unusual European walnut. And hardwood(pine secondary wood) miniature wardrobe with ebonized wood panels dates ca. 1860-1880 and measures only 23 ½” tall x 17” wide x 7 5/8” deep. It features a faded and worn original French Polish surface with some irregular coloration but a nice sheen. All of the wood with the exception of the inside shelves(added early 1900s) appears to be original and there is only the scantest trace of old(inactive) insect damage to the bottom. The tiny, turned bun feet are sturdy and without damage and the locks and latches are right as rain. You will note a very small corner loss in the veneer on the top back corner as per the pictures. Here is a fabulous early 19th century French wardrobe with original hinges and lovely carving across the top above the doors including raised carved applique date of 1835. Imported to Charleston from France by it's current owner after he purchased it at a high end antiques store in Normandy. The finish particularly on the front doors is nice with lovely wood grains and the original long metal hinges holding the doors in place. It stands 78 inches tall and measures 60 inches wide and 28 inches deep front to back at the widest points on it's bonnet. The outside of the closet itself measures closer to 54 inches wide and 26 inches from the front of the doors back to the wall. We had to replace some of the missing screws with modern screws. Not all screws were replaced. It is missing the coat rod. We are not sure of the maker, region of origin, or Wood. We did have an antique dealer/appraiser look at the piece. she told us that she believes that it could be a Spanish or French origin. She was not sure of the maker. She did believe that the wood could be Black Cherry or a Mahogany. She could tell us from the craftsmanship that it was from the 18 hundreds. All the engravings and dove tail ends were done by hand. I am pleased to offer for sale this primitive Walnut antique wardrobe-circa late 19th to very early 20th century. This walnut wardrobe is tall. Primitive and very heavy; it does not knockdown. It features detailed woodwork on the doors and has two bottom drawers that pull out. Approximate measurements: 78" tall from the floor to the top of the crown molding(removable) 48" wide and 17" deep Interior measurements: 59 5/8" tall; 15.5" wide; 46" deep Drawers: 18 1/4" wide; 14 3/8" deep dovetailed ends The sides are solid walnut with the top. Back and bottom made of solid pine. The doors are walnut and are around 7/8" thick. There are several old hooks as well as a clothes pole inside the wardrobe. This fine example perfect for modern living has a moulded cornice over a single large mirrored door flanked by fielded arched panel doors being raised on a plinth base.
