On offer for sale is this very original fine quality late Victorian solid pine two door wardrobe.circa 1890, The wardrobe completely flat packs so will fit up the smallest of stair cases.It constructed of solid pine with the doors haveing thick solid panels. it has very nice shaped corbels to the top and bottom. there is a modern steel hanging that fits from left to right.The wardrobe has ample depth to accomadate modern hangers, there is a sunken botton for shoe storage. The condition is very good with original woodworm holes these have been treated many years ago and are long gone(modern antique replicas have fake worm holes) these do not effect the construction stregnth or function of the wardrobe The dimensions when assembled are a very generous width 65 inches depth 26 inches and height 79 inches. Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. The sides single solid planks that stretch from the crest to the toe, the backboards vertically nailed in tight clean rows along both edges and the bottom. The crest is a separate piece screwed to the top of the case at equal intervals in deep wells. It is very difficult to make a well supported attribution to Tennessee; however, we feel fairly confident this piece originated in either Kentucky or Tennessee. Description This fine piece of furniture was made in England around the turn of the century by John Shoolbred& Co. which was located at Tottenham House. Tottenham Court Road, London. Shoolbred started the company in the 1820s as a draper selling textiles. The location was expanded and moved several times as the company grew. Shoolbred's shop became one of the early examples of a department store, showing elaborate settings using his furniture, carpet and other products to attract customers. In the 1870s the Shoolbred Company was manufacturing it's own furniture, sold around the world. Catalogs were produced and mailed to potential customers that could not visit the show room. The company ceased production in 1931 after the market crashed in 1929. Made of Satinwood, this Wardrobe is an excellent example of Shoolbred's designs. ... moreThe center section is very tall with enough room to accommodate long coats or dresses easily. With built in clothing hooks, this piece is perfect for suits and other high end clothing. The solid wood door houses a full length mirror, ensuring that you look your best. This most unusual European walnut. And hardwood(pine secondary wood) miniature wardrobe with ebonized wood panels dates ca. 1860-1880 and measures only 23 ½” tall x 17” wide x 7 5/8” deep. It features a faded and worn original French Polish surface with some irregular coloration but a nice sheen. All of the wood with the exception of the inside shelves(added early 1900s) appears to be original and there is only the scantest trace of old(inactive) insect damage to the bottom. The tiny, turned bun feet are sturdy and without damage and the locks and latches are right as rain. You will note a very small corner loss in the veneer on the top back corner as per the pictures. Here is a fabulous early 19th century French wardrobe with original hinges and lovely carving across the top above the doors including raised carved applique date of 1835. Imported to Charleston from France by it's current owner after he purchased it at a high end antiques store in Normandy. The finish particularly on the front doors is nice with lovely wood grains and the original long metal hinges holding the doors in place. It stands 78 inches tall and measures 60 inches wide and 28 inches deep front to back at the widest points on it's bonnet. The outside of the closet itself measures closer to 54 inches wide and 26 inches from the front of the doors back to the wall. Stunning piece i do not know the origin or date, looks to be pretty early i have never seen anything quite like it, i have been told it may be pine wood but am not 100% cabinet is very large about 7 feet tall and 19' deep and nearly 3 feet wide.doors have pad lock style hinges(loose but usable) wood is in good shape for age would be a good piece to refinish, i was going to but just loved the look as it is. could have been a pantry or armoire. it is hard for me to put a value on it so i am just looking for offers. local pick up only.
