The inside storage dimensions are 69” in height, 26” in width, and 17” in depth for each section. This beauty disassembles into 12 pieces for shipping purposes and is full of possibilities. This lovely Wardrobe/Armoire is constructed of solid Walnut with beautiful incised Burl Walnut moulding beneath the crown along with elegant vertical raised Burl Walnut panels on the sides and in-between on the original mirrored doors. These doors open to reveal three storage shelves. Additional storage is found in the two bottom burl-front drawers that are constructed with Knapp-joinery. Have intact locks, and brass pulls. American Federal Cupboard or Cabinet. Southern States, Probably Kentucky or Tennessee Early 19th Century c. 1820-40 Item# 130101QIP27 This is a striking piece in every regard. First and foremost. The sheer perfection found in the tight minimalistic landscape of this undistracted and restrained surface is unrivaled. Everything about the form is harmonious, the crown being distinctly angular and sharp, deep enough to cast a formidable shadow over the case while still remaining a small part of the form as a whole. The large case is cleanly divided into six parts by a craftsman clearly averse to using graduation in any portion of the piece. Using deeply chamfered panels set into rabbets in the through-tenon-mortise joined door frames, these opening easily over replaced brass hinges. Inside is a spacious shelved interior, again spaced at equal ... moreintervals with a large space for the bottommost shelf, avoiding the use of graduation. The effect is attractive, resulting in a stoic aesthetic so commonly associated with works of those states. On both left side doors. A tiny wooden catch is affixed to the inside of the door using a hand forged screw, allowing each of the doors to be locked shut; the opposite door has a small wooden knob external and a forged iron lock interior(absent on the lower door) the wooden knobs are likely purchased from a different shop or imported, as they appear to be of black walnut and the work of a skilled turner. They are, however, original to the piece and remain affixed with their original screws. The case is plain and devoid of embellishment. The sides single solid planks that stretch from the crest to the toe, the backboards vertically nailed in tight clean rows along both edges and the bottom. The crest is a separate piece screwed to the top of the case at equal intervals in deep wells. It is very difficult to make a well supported attribution to Tennessee; however, we feel fairly confident this piece originated in either Kentucky or Tennessee. And is of American origin with an Arts& Crafts or Mission style look. Unusual for an American piece, it has a mechanism for disassembly to simplify the task of moving it from one place to another. A single door is found on the front, and hooks(not original to the piece) are found on the back, near the top, for hanging garments. Limited depth on the inside is not sufficient for a hanger to fit front-to-back. So this piece is better suited for use as a Hall Wardrobe, rather than a full armoire. Other possibilities, with the addition of shelves, would be use as a Bookcase, Spice Cabinet, or Kitchen Pantry. Very Large Antique French Empire / Canadian American Wardrobe / Armoire L@@K!
A very large French Empire wardrobe or armoire circa 1850-1870. Past down by decent in the same French Canadian family and then through marriage to Norwegian American relatives in the 1920's. Made from beautifully grained mahogany veneer over pine secondary wood and always kept indoors. There is absolutely no fading of the rich wood colors. It is approximately 87 inches high. 24 inches deep, and 61 inches wide, and is in excellent overall condition. Only minor veneer chips as expected from age and use. I will give it a dusting and a coat of paste wax and it will be ready to enjoy for another 100 years. It is easily disassembled for transport thanks to the original wood keys which attach the sides to the base and the tapered wedges which lock the top to the sides. I have taken pictures with the back removed so you can easily see the clever ... moreconstruction technique which is more American than French. I actually wonder if this piece was built in Canada by a French cabinetmaker. Due to the size of this antique wardrobe I would prefer that it be picked up. This armoire features a beautifully carved crest and rippled molding around the doors. A fitted interior with two small drawers offer nice storage. Items can be hung on either side of the drawers. The wardrobe has been refinished at some point showing off the gorgeous crotch Mahogany. The armoire is solid sturdy and ready to use. 1850s American Victorian Wardrobe Walnut Authentic Original Carved Maker
Up for auction is an early American Walnut Wardrobe estimated 1850s. Wardrobe is amazing and has beautiful carvings on the bonnet. It is in excellent condition and has been treated very well. The wardrobe is approximately 9 foot tall and deserves a nice home. It is one of a kind and truly is a beauty. It is authentic and is a piece of history which makes this a very good investment. It is approximately 50 inches across and you can see how well balanced it is. The wardrobe was copied by an artist who is a hand carver of minitures. He found it to be of perfect proportions.
