A large rectangular mirror on the single cabinet door, and exquisite paneled accent carvings on either side of the mirror. The bevelled edge mirror is very clean almost suggesting that is has been replaced but I found no evidence to support that it is not the original. The cabinet door has an ornate solid drop pull and the drawer has two large decorative bail pulls. The skirt is arched on the side of the piece and there are scalloped brackets on the front. The interior is paneled and has two mounted hooks and 6 sliding hooks on the hanging bar. A very nice piece in remarkable condition for the age(circa 1890) this armoire is certain to become a cherished heirloom. Condition: It has some age appropriate signs of wear including scratches. Hand carved of solid walnut in England. This hand crafted furniture disassembles for delivery. The original finish is well preserved with various touchups over the years. Waxed and polished. Only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to preserve its antique patina. There are minor mars at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age. Embossed brasses are original, drawers have tiny hand cut dovetail joinery. Mirrors are beveled. The right closet has a later hanging pole. We had this piece in the master bedroom of our Spanish Colonial home and it worked very well, but now we have downsized and it's time to let it go. The armoire is solid oak. With hand-hammered and hand-forged hardware. I do not have the skeleton keys for the locks. The main compartment features a shelf along the top and brass clothes rod for hanging clothes and functions extremely well as ... morean extra closet. The left compartment features adjustable shelves and has two drawers at the bottom(see pictures) There are two issues I need to disclose. Neither of which detract from the beauty or presentation of this piece. The left-most door is slightly warped(we puchased it this way) probably from being in Vancouver which is very damp, and so a small portion of the top of the door does not close flush with the rest of the armoire by about 3/8 inch. Also, the top-left most panel of the same door has experienced some shrinkage, hardly noticeable. Other than that. The piece is in excellent condition for being over 100 years old. We suggest blanket-wrapped shipping, but please note that like all antique armoires, it disassembles to move through hard-to-navigate areas within one's home, so there should be no worries about moving a piece this big after purchasing. This Ar-moire is in beautiful condition and has been passed down to me with the following info. The items actual date of manufacture is unknown. But has been stated as being 1890-1899. Material used for construction has been stated to be Burl Walnut. Item was originally purchased at an estate sale in Beverly Hills, CA. Weight of item has been stated to be in excess of 300 lbs. but never actually taken. Item is stated as being 100% original in hardware and materials used. Now for what we know for sure. This Ar moire is very large! Measures 76" tall(from bottom of legs to tallest point. Center) with 72 1/2" across(from left to right edge, center) and a depth of 19 1/2" Diagonally(from bottom left corner, across face, to top right corner) it measures 102" The wardrobe is sectioned into three pieces. The left two thirds share ... moretheir interior space and have a beautiful brass closet style rod spanning its length, with original brass hangers and hooks.The right most third of this wardrobe is partitioned, and has three adjustable shelves and an original glass mirror(48x14x1/4) mounted on inside of door. English 1890's Antique Georgian Design Armoire. Linen Press or Chifferobe. A classic armoire. Linen press or chifferobe in the Georgian manner was hand crafted in England around 1890. Beautiful mahogany wood has a fine old finish, waxed and polished so that all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are shrinkage separations from age and minor mars at the edges for character. Drawers and the back were restored with hand cut dovetail joints by a skilled carpenter many years ago after this understated antique was brought to America. Expert construction includes delicate inlaid banding and pegged joints on raised panel doors. Original brasses have embossed grape clusters. The door lock does not work. The key is a handle only.
