An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either side are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. Impressive Louis XV mahogany armoire or wardrobe. This large piece has tons of storage space behind its three doors. Mirrors with bevelled edges and ornately carved wooden panels give this piece an amazing decorative look. A gracefully curved top is capped by an intricately carved finial. Skirted fronts and short cabriole legs lift it off the ground and keep the armoire from feeling heavy despite its size. This piece can be dismantled for moving. Overall. The armoire is in good condition. The two side mirrors have some noticable silver loss. Example pictured. There are also some small dents and dings to the wood. Information on This Item I've been trying to list this beautiful armoire for a while now. Getting photos that reflect it's rich. True color has proven to be difficult. Please note that the 5th photo, showing a closeup of the carvings, is the true color. This 1840's Armoire is one of the nicest ones we've had in a long time. It breaks down into manageable sections for shipping and moving. The inside is set up with linen press details, sliding trays and drawers, and has a nice section on the left for hanging. It measures 54" wide in the body and 60" wide at the crown x 22 1/2" deep and 82 1/2" tall. I wish you could stand in front of this piece to see the richness of its finish, especially since I can't get really good photos. But I promise you that you will love this armoire! Exceptional French Empire Gilt& Patinated Bronze Mounted Mahogany Armoire Probably c. 1880-1910 Item# 130408PXG26 This rare and exciting work of art from the last quarter of the 19th Century is exceptional in every way. An incredible accomplishment. The foundry work executed in this piece is above reproach- each gilt bronze mount is hand chased to the highest quality, mercury gilded and of outstanding detail. An angular and commanding work, the Armoire is surmounted by a triangular crest that is removable from the body with two dowels on either side- this is flanked by a pair of carved mahogany(replaced) finials. Beneath the projecting crown molding, an incredible gilt bronze mount of an angel riding through ocean waves in a cornucopia pulled along by swans while leaving behind a trail of shells is simply stunning. Flanking this on either ... moreside are opposing gilt bronze solider masks. The top is removable. Lifting off of large steel screws inside of the armoire to allow the door to be lifted from it's hinges for easier transportation. On either side of the door, pedestaled on large tapered columns rest large and highly impressive patinated and gilt bronze Classical female heads with bowed ribbon holding her hair back. These are the largest mounts of flawless execution we've seen on a piece from this period, each a stunning work of art in it's own merit. A hand filed steel screw secures each head to the case. Beneath the column, intense gilded Lion Paw's in the Regency manner complete the form. The arched door swings open with use of the original key. Revealing a golden oak interior of four shelves and a single locking drawer. This drawer is hand dovetailed with solid oak secondary woods, when removed revealing an illegible signature in period script along the dust board. Affixed to the top of the armoire on the inside is an old bill of lading from Lawsonia Manufacturing Company in Philadelphia, noting it's sale of an"Exist. Georgian Gentleman's Press/armoire with fitted drawers. Circa 1810. Looking for a piece to anchor your room? This antique.Beautiful, large mahogany 2 door wardrobe will satisfy the requirement. it measures 24" deep, 48" wide and 83" high and is not only roomy, but offers an organized space for storage. Breaks down into 3 sections for easier transport-bottom drawer, mid-section and'bonnet' or cornice. The case piece includes a fitted interior with solid wood. Dove-tailed drawers on the left, wardrobe for hanging clothing on the right supported by one wide drawer. Each drawer was designed for the gentleman's finer things, from hats and gloves to shirts and sweaters. Suits, skirts and dresses may be hung on the right. The press is lined with a finely woven. Printed, figured fabric featuring a celtic design, intertwining ... moreshapes in red and sepia on a cream background. The fabric has suffered one tear near the exterior edge of the compartment for hanging clothing. I believe it is reparable, the material is still'crisp' but there are signs of use where the fabric meets the opening. The overall condition of the press is good for its age of 200 years! It is a solid, heavy piece with little chips of the dark veneer missing from the base of the press. The interior wood finish is the color of rich honey; the exterior is brush-stroked a dark mahoghany over a warmer, lighter wood tone. All drawer pulls are original. We do have the pull for the bottom drawer; however. A dowel is needed in order to keep it in place. The lock is a working original one. It was described as a beautiful, precise lock by the locksmith who crafted the key. The press was imported to the U.S. from Dumfries. Scotland. It is an example of well-made furniture. This is an absolutely fabulous antique one piece Victorian four door mahogany closet or wardrobe. With original cloak hooks and campaign drawers and carved decorative finial. Currently having several shelf papered covered shelves someone added to increase storage space, a new owner could have additional or shelves more appropriate to the age of the piece made if desired or it could simply be used for that always needed extra space to hang multiple jackets and store books, gloves, scarves and sporting equipment within a stylish yet functional old Victorian wardrobe, most recently imported from the UK through Edinburgh, Scotland. This terrific four door closet stands 86 1/2 inches tall and measures 67 1/2 inches wide by 17 inches deep. Front to back. There are a total of three brass cloak hooks around the wall in each end closet as well a three ... moreprong hook in the center plus four along the wall and two more 3 prong hook's in the large center closet, with hooks for a total of 22 coats, jackets or scarves. Victorian 1880s Mahogany Noveau Armoire Wardrobe
This late 1800s Victorian Mahogany Armoire has the original pleated sage green fabric behind the glass fretwork-covered side windows. The beautiful hand carvings on this wardrobe make it a very desirable piece. The wardrone breaks down easily into three pieces for convenient moving or storage. The very top. Deep thick crown piece has a chip missing on the very end but this is not obvious unless pointed out. The finish is original. It certainly does not look new or perfect but is quite presentable. The 9 1/2" deep blanket drawer on the bottom has nice original noveau copper handles. Inside the piece are 6 original coathooks and two hanging racks that were added later, but are still old and do not detract from the value as they are easily removed. A very fine antique. Circa 1900- 1940, French Louis XV style display armoire. It can be broken down for shipment: cornice, complete framed paneled back, both sides, two doors, and footed base with drawers. The case is of solid mahogany; the back boards, four shelves, the side interiors, of quartersawn oak. The bottom drawer has an oak interior also. The case surface is stripped mahogany veneers, and ormolu brass applied scroll with seashells mornaments. The doors have a simple wavy brass grill. There is an oak panel that needs to be inserted back into the framing of the back- can be done from above when armoire is reassembled, see photo. The armoire measures 8'2" 98" tall by 4'6" 54" wide 19" deep, the shelves 14" deep. Excellent condition: solid construction, includes the vertical bar lock and key. 1850's Mahogany Pennsylvania Made Armoire That Measures 7'3"L X 7'5"T X 1'9"D
Up for your consideration is this Large Mirrored Early American Antique 1850'S Mahogany Armoire. This Unique piece was built in Pennsylvania and breaks down into five pieces that sit on knobs for easy transport. This piece was shipped to Atlanta which survived the Civil War. The Mahogany is rough in various areas but as you can see in the pictures with the use of triple a steel wool and a little work the rough areas are refined into the woods original finish. This piece was brought to Appalachiacola Florida in the early 1900's where it was stored away until 2010 at which time I obtained it at an estate sale. The two door mirror's were replaced and a little bit of work has been done to the wood to bring out the original Mahogany finish. The doors have been removed.
