Antique Walnut Armoire - Louis XV Era - Circa 1800-1899
This is a beautiful Walnut Armoire. Louis XV era, circa 1800-1899. It has a single beveled mirror door and has intricate carving on the top and on the bottom drawer. The inside has 5 shelfs measuring 3' x 13" and an inside lockable drawer measuring 27 1/2" x 19 1/2" 4" deep. The inside of the armoire is lined with birdseye maple. The armoire measures 95" to the top of the filigree. And is 40" wide. The beveled mirror measures 25 7/8" wide and is 57 5/8" high. The door is also lockable. Below the door/mirror is another drawer measuring 31 3/4" x 14" x 3 5/8" deep. It is in excellent original condition. It comes apart in 4 sections for easy shipping. Kas Dutch Dowry Armoire. 1800's Antique Oak, Rosewood& Ebony. This Netherlands traditional"Kas" or armoire is a dowry cabinet hand made in the early 1800's. Fine grained oak has accents of genuine rosewood and ebony are from colonies in the Dutch West Indies. The original finish is in excellent condition. Waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. The classic design includes raised panels, a large crown, bun feet and a hand carved frieze around the top. A sliding cover reveals a keyhole for the working lock. Joints have carved wooden pegs. Hand planing marks can be felt everywhere on this historic furniture. There are shrinkage separations from age, see photos. Inside are two drawers. This antique heirloom would have held a young woman's linens ... moreand silver, and moved with her when she married.
