This cabinet was done entirely in the exotic wood veneered known as Heart of palm wood originally with a mirror door now with out the silvering it also has glass shelves with wooden fronts and lights incorporated in the top; this is a magnificent example of Italian workmanship from the turn of the century. The presence of a central face as a crest on its principal crown indicates that this exuberant display cabinet. Dating from the last quarter of the 19th century, almost certainly has its origins of its manufacture in a Venetian order, where, other than the international shows, the frequently-held Biennale provided the focal forum for the exhibition of Italian Art. Antique 19th century French Armoire from the Charente - Walnut - to restore - NR
This auction is for a 19th century French armoire for restoration. The armoire is made of what I believe to be walnut. I purchased this at an antique shop near Cognac in the Charente department of France about 10 years ago and had it shipped to the US as part of a load of inventory for an antique shop(since closed) that was located in Connecticut. It was a project piece that I intended to restore and then sell. Unfortunately. I never had the time to tackle this so I am putting this up for sale to someone who has the time and skill to restore this to its former glory(we used to sell these in restored condition anywhere between $6K& $12k) The photos tell do the best job of describing the condition- to summarize, there is no back(it was a piece of plywood when purchased and removed pending restoration) the crown and top(as well as the bottom) ... moreare missing and will need to be rebuilt, there is no lock on the doors and door on the right has has a slight warp to it(that someone has corrected by putting a piece of wood into the opening to make it close completely) the spanner beneath the doors was replaced at sometime with what appears to be matching wood but not carved to match the rest of the case, the left side is complete but has come out of mortise on the front column and will need to be reattached, finally, the right side bottom spanner is missing the bottom of the curved carved piece(see a photo of the left side bottom to get an idea of what is missing) If you have done this type of restoration project before then you know what is involved and how nice this will be when complete- it's a great project for someone with some skill and patience. Height from top to bottom is 84" Depth from front to back is 21.25" width is about 52" The doors are 48" wide by 71" high. The escutcheons measure 19" high by 1.75" wide. Due to the size. Offered here is a gorgeous Large Antique Louis XV Style Walnut Armoire(French) circa 1880-1910. This piece is in very nice condition. It features beautifully carved provencal style flowers with basket at center. With a serpentine shaped apron raised on cabriole legs and original hardware. It features 1 shelf, but more could be added and the original key. The only flaws to mention is a split in the floor of the piece that does not affect the armoire structurally(see picture) and repair to repair to back legs. This piece is a great decorator piece! Material used for construction has been stated to be Burl Walnut. Item was originally purchased at an estate sale in Beverly Hills, CA. Continental Harwood Kas/Armoire 18th/19th Century Primitive Country Disassembled
For the woodworking enthusiast. This is a gorgeous kas made of oak. Bought at auction a year ago and did a lot of work cleaning it and sanding but I no longer have the time to devote to this piece. Kas appears to have been disassembled a long time ago for storage. This was a barn find. All pieces are there. I have sanded and cleaned with oxalic acid the entire front including all doors, drawers, top and bottom, sides and backboard still need to be done. Pulls are made of cast iron and are present excepting a half one that was missing. There is also a nice piece of bone carving that fits into teh small door above drawers. 19th Century, French, Gothic Revival Made In Paris Rare Hand Carved Armoire
This armoire is made by hand in the 1800's and is of the Gothic Revival Age As you can see this is a very very rare piece of functional art. All the Other Armoires are a dime a dozen compared to this one. This Armoire is very special. It's actually two pieces a top and bottom when combined they at well over 10ft tall and is very heavy. The armoire has been oiled and that's it. I'm not positive of the wood but it's extremely hard heavy and has bright red green. Orange, yellow and orange tones. I've looked and looked for anything like this and can't find anything like it. The last owner paid over 15,000.00 20 years ago.
